Hey guys,

My system is as follows

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE
Mobo: Asus M4A78
RAM: OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel

Now ideally i want to run this lot at 3.8Ghz i got an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler the temps get to get around 53-55c under 100% load.

Any ideas how i can increase it to 3.8Ghz ? it won't run at 19x multipier on the standard cpu volts.

Temps under load:

How its setup:

You need to find out the stepping of the CPU in cpu z. A c2 stepping will struggle to get past 3.7 ghz while a c3 stepping should manage 3.8 ghz.

Also use the bios to change the multiplier and the the cpu voltage. Should manage 3.8 ghz by upping the voltage to around 1.40v and increasing the multipler.

Check stability by using an application called prime 95. Also check the temperature as well. You ideally want it in the mid 50's at most.

Up to 60 as a maximum temperature when heavily stressing is ok, beyond that is pushing it. (mid 50's as above is the ideal) I ran my C2 stepping 955 at 3.7GHz using 1.456V for 5 years without an issue. It is also beneficial to push the cpu nb clock speed up too. I ran mine at 2400 using a 240mhz bus and 10x multiplier with 1.25V. Keep the HT link speed at or under 2000mhz, under by ~100mhz does not actually affect performance but helps keep things stable. I've not got any idea how much of an effect running DDR2 will have vs DDR3 though as I never actually used DDR2. (I upgraded straight from an athlon64 with DDR to the phenom with DDR3)

When going nuts with the 8-pack superPi bench thread, I pushed my chip to 4GHz using 1.55V and the cpu nb up to 2.9GHz with 1.425V, even the ram got pushed up to 2V to get it to run at CL7 rather than CL9.
