Hi people, I posted a week or 2 back about building my setup.

I bought the kit just before the weekend and everything went in smoothly. Installed my main games like GTA IV and BF2.

I get lag on both of these games.

Recently I just realised my cpu has been running at 1.6ghz (I am pretty sure when I first installed vista it said 3.2ghz).

Anyway I turned the CPU muiliplier from auto to 9 and its now 1.8ghz. In the bios it says a formula like Ratio x cpu speed.

the cpu speed in the bios settings is 200mhz and as said the muiltiplier is 9.
9x200 = 1.8 ghz, Sounds good to me.

I am just wondering what is the best ratio to use?

Thanks in advance.

Ahh...I think you mean the 955 BE.
I've got the same in a Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P mobo. You should see 3.2 Ghz as standard, which is a x16 Mulitplier.
Does your BIOS recognise the CPU as a 955, otherwise you may need to flash with latest for it to be recognised.
I just looked on the Gigabyte website - you need the F2 bios for the 955BE cpu.

Yep...BE = Black Edition. It is that CPU. ;)
You need to check which version of the BIOS your PC posts with...at the top when the PC Boots. If it's F1 then you'll need to download the F2 BIOS from Gigabyte and follow your mobo instructions to flash upgrade it.:)

Cool N' Quite is a BIOS thing so you will need to go into the BIOS.

I have the same CPU and i had the same issue... CPU would be at 800mhz and then 1.6GHz and it would change almost every 10 seconds or so, but after disabling CnQ it went upto 3.2Ghz and stayed there.

You'll love the 955 - best CPU i've ever had :D

Well I disabled CnQ and put the muiltiplier back to Auto and it's still 1.6ghz.

It's running the F1 bios so I suppose I have to flash it to F2?

And unless it causes problems you should leave cool n quiet on, otherwise you're just caning electric for no benefit at all, the chip will speed up to 3.2 as soon as it's needed anyway.
