Hi guys I've bought some parts to build a 2nd rig to go in my bedroom and I have a few questions about it.

1) do you overclock the phenom the same way you do an fx8350? If not is there a decent guide for the phenom ii x6 please.

2) I've bought a gigabyte ga-970a-ds3 and it doesn't have a vrm heat sink only north and south bridge. I'm going to be running a h60 v2 on the CPU with a 120mm exhaust fan on it and intake fans a 120mm in the front, 120mm in the bottom and 2 140mm on the side panel blowing straight at the socket area. Will this be sufficient or should I also mount a 120mm literally above the vrm blowing onto it?

Many thanks in advance, Damien.

It depends on what Phenom 2 x6 you have? If it's a black edition then yes the way you over clock it is very similar to the way you over clock an FX8350.

If not then you have to use the FSB method.

4Ghz should be easy on any Phenom 2 x6 and with good cooling any up to 4.4Ghz can be done.

However in your case I would by a new board, Phenom 2's pul a lot of power when over clocked and that little board will not last long.

You need a little Crosshair 4 Formula which can be bought cheap now, or one of the Gigabyte 890FX boards.

ok thanks for your reply. This is the cpu:

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 6 Core CPU 2.8GHz HDT55TFBK6DGR

Its only my second machine for my room so i can live with it at stock. It will be in an air conditioned room about 18 deg c 24/7 with a h60 v2 cpu cooler.

If i can find a cheap enough crosshair iv ill get one anyway as anything asus ROG makes me feel confident in its ability. :) Now ive just got to find the right gpu im looking at something like a 7870 or gtx660 i reckon.
