Looking at building a new pc soonish as i think its about time (still on AMD 64 3700 and an ATI X1800XT), ive never really liked Intel but I know Core 2 Duo has held the crown for quite some time now.

Saw these new AMD cpus and was wondering how they stack up against the Intel ones, understand both are quadcore?

Bit out of the cpu loop now so some insight would be great.

Yeah i gathered thats how it would go, so the Core 2 quad pro Q6600 is about the best bang for buck at the moment, or something new around the corner i should wait for?

i got my quad upto 4.25 ghz, wasnt stable but camn be achiweved with the right cooling and motherboard !! cupra got even higher !!! I had an am2 and it didnt clock at all, lucky to get 600 mhz out of it not 1.6ghz

The AMD triple cores out in march sound pretty interesting.
I got spider platform on the rise i think, 790FX mobo, 3870X2 + cheaper phenom or triple core when they get on top of things.

intel **** all over AMD at the moment

and will do even more when the new intel 45nm tech comes out.

intel is definately the way to go at the moment.

can boot into windows on my Q6600 @ 4.3Ghz+ and can Prime95 8hours stable @ 4.023Ghz on Air (admittedly not your "standard" air setup) most Q6600 with decent air cooling are good for 3.4/3.6Ghz

Another thing annoying about AMD... the 790FX chipset, overhyped garbage just like the RD600. Still using crap SB600 that they paired with RD600, they really need to take a lesson on chipset design from Intel.

P35 + ICH9R + Cache write back = god send.

If Phenom ever does take off, it's going to need a good chipset and just like Socket A, 754 and 939 it's more likely that 'good' chipset will come from nVidia.
