Thanks for the post, interesting article. I do feel the motherboard might be a bit newer and higher end than the user profile you were going for but that's only a minor criticism.
Also, the 9500 is low end even for Phenom I, I think a Phenom II 940 buyer might have had a phenom I 9950.

I thought about that and especially with the MOBO. But, I worked with what I had on hand.
Personally, I'm glad AMD is migrating to DDR3. However, there is obviously a lot of mileage left in a solid DDR2 system. So, users that fit our assumption about having a good set of DDR2 can benefit from this.
I also have an upcoming article using this same board and our new 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR2 800 kit. It should be fun and really show what can be done with a solid Phenom II 940 on the right board.
Yes, it's good to have the choice. I just did a 940 build for a friend with a £60 AM2+ board and 4GB of DDR2 for £40. A lot of power for not much money.
But now cheaper DDR3 boards are starting to come out and the difference for the memory is not much, I think both are viable options.
Of course, I understand, reviews are always limited by the components available.
