Switched on PC today after a long (stressful) day at work and my CPU fan was really loud! Looked on my Gadget and CPU was fluctuating between 26% and 75%.

Looked on Processes and closed any that wernt being used etc. Still the same. Odd i thought.

So installed AVG and Spy Bot ran scans and looked in msconfig to remove any start up programmes that wernt being used....reboot....still same. After about 10 mins of the 2nd reboot now slowed down and fan slowed and is between 6% -10% with firefox and AVG running.

1. Is it just the cold weather? My house is usually quite warm most times (got a lil un at home so).

2. Is it anything to be worried about and should i reset any mobo bios?

3. is 6%-10% FF and AVG ok?

EDIT: As i speak jumped back to 33%.

Its not an old system. 3 months old maybe.

Defrag the machine, run things like malwarebytes and ccleaner, if that doesn't fix it re-install windows (makes sure to backup). If that doesn't work then you may be having hardware problems.

I'm idle at the moment (chrome, steam, avg, few explorer windows) and my P2 965 is at 11%, so I'd say thats perfectly normal. You do often see processor usage spikes. Your processor probably clocks down when idle to save power, which adds to those spikes a little I think.

Download Coretemp and Prime 95 (not sure if I'm allowed to link so you'll have to google them) and run Prime 95 on blend mode (options should pop up when you start it) for a bit with coretemp open. If your temperatures don't go above about 60c then there really is nothing to worry about. Fans can get quite loud sometimes and the sound they make does change due to all manner of things (location etc).
