The 955 is on par with the i7 920 in gaming...if that 955 is £190 then it will hit the sweet spot of price/performance.

I have just read the Anandtech review & im surprised that they did not try the Multiplier to OC the 955BE because everyone knows that the Phenom2 OC better with the Multi & the CPU/HT Ref Clock at near default.
None of the 5-6.5Ghz Phenom2 benches used high CPU/HT Ref Clock.

Depends if you want to go DDR3 though mate, I agree though to your point in general, at 165 ish the 940 is a stonking buy.

The performance increase would be evolutionary, rather than revolutionary... broadly similar processor architecture, but more efficient and faster in the 955.
I would have thought you wouldn't notice the difference between either.

Good thing about these new ones are how good they clock compared to the older ones.
