Just checking what Mobo chipset these are compatible with, i believed that they were only compatible with 990 chipsets, but my friend has made me doubt myself.

AM3+ boards they're compatible with, although some lower end boards have trouble with their power draw.
So even as low as 760G.

Thanks, and do you mean some 760G have problems? or that that is the lowest you can go?

The chipset is fairly irrelevant, 760G boards by their nature are lower end boards, their VRM design on the board itself will be inferior, that's where the problems arise.
For the 8 core Piledriver I would recommend this board minimum, you might get away with something a bit cheaper but then don't expect to be able to overclock it..
Its a high end CPU with high end powerdraw, unless you know you need 8 cores you would do just as well with the FX-6350.
