AMD plan to quintuple cache size?

That'll also need us to quintuple our cash.

Possibly noy. I've only had chance to skim the article as the pub is calling :p but it says that they can keep the die size the same, so it shouldn't beany more expensive as the amount of silicon used is the same.

If you read up no this at dailytech (anandtechs news site) it mentions that the new technology allows dramatically reduced cache die size. It works on AMD's current manufacturing process so it won't cost them lots to implment. Basically they could quadruple the cache without raising the price. Great for the high end.

Antoher benefit is if they keep the cache the same they can make it FAR smaller, thus increasing yield, thus making the chips cheaper. This would be great for the low end.

Sounds very promising, and to top it all off this new cache type uses less power than current types so power and heat will drop too.

Heaven sent piece of tech' really.

Nathan what CPU are you running under the hood atm?

Just wondering because you've spawned into quite the Intel fanboi these days :p
