Amd Price cuts

"Hi there

I've had access to roadmaps for sometime and have access to the latest.

GTX 680 was intended for March/April, it is now here. Fact is NVIDIA were always intending to release GTX 680 class card now, yes the spec may have changed but this has always being scheduled launch for their top-end GTX 680 product.

Cards that will come next shall be 670Ti and 670, expect them around May time, maybe end of April, these shall both be slower than GTX 680 obviously.

GTX 680 2GB, aimed at 7970.
GTX 670ti replaces GTX 580 and shall also be 2GB at £320ish range, it will take on 7950 3GB.
GTX 670 replaces GTX 570 and no doubt 2GB also, expect £239.99 and well slightly faster than GTX 570.

GTX 560Ti and 560 are not due to be replaced until much later in the year.

All low-end, 520/550 etc. shall be re-branded into 6xx series, same cards just re-boxed as 6 series with slightly bumped clock speeds.

A dual GPU based card could and can be released when NVIDIA desire to do so, most likely called GTX 690.

Again GTX 680 is flagged on the roadmap as fastest single GPU card, will a faster single GPU card come this year. Well I guess that depends if NVIDIA feel they need one and if they do I suspect October-December timeframe.

What we can expect in April/May is AIB's making much faster and higher TDP varients of GTX 680.

Don't be surprised to see cards like EVGA GTX 680 Superclocked 4096MB soon with twice memory and higher clock speeds for £500-£600 region."

:(

This whole generation of 28NM cards is fail. I am going to stick with what I have until next year.

I might just spend my money on a Core i5 or Core i7 or perhaps another mini-ITX computer. At least these will give me value for money.

Useless generation is useless.

To some, not others.

It seems there are quite a lot of people prepared to fork out over £400 for a HD 7970 or GTX 680.

I would suspect in the scheme of things, there are probably more people interested in the £100 to £250 market than at the top end worldwide. The some probably only applies to those buying GTX680 or HD7970 cards, and who make the most noise.

ATM,this current generation really does not move things forward that much. A GTX670 with barely better than GTX570 performance is meh. You could get GTX570 cards for as low as £230 to £240 even last year. The same goes with the HD7870 too.

Actually if Nvidia can make a competitive card in that price bracket (£100-£150) I willl retire the GTX 275 from my fragbox :)

If the GTX670 has slightly better performance than a GTX570,ie,basically HD7870 level performance, for the same price as a GTX570,how fast do you think a GTX660TI will be??

It is going to be slightly better than GTX560TI stock performance:

Probably,HD7850 level. Not bad on the face of it but ,still not that much of an improvement. The status quo is maintained.

So,basically the 2nd generation 28NM cards will be a reasonable improvement overall unless there are price drops on the first generation cards. Hence,me waiting until next year.

Agree with you but then again when has the price of a new high end gpu been cheap or fair in a sense?
The biggest problem with this gen cards is that they got pretty much same performance to the cost ratio as LAST GEN, and playing "fill in the gap" for last gen pricing.

Despite the 7870 being on a different architecture and on 28nm, it is just pretty much a glorified rebranding of 6970 with simliar performance at similar price (£280+). So any TRUE performance progression demands a price premium that stack on top of previous gen's launch prices, rather than "free" performance increase for moving gen which we have always seen in the pass.

I didn't say they should be cheap or fair.

What you hope/expect is that the performance/£ would improve with a new generation of GPU's.

Pretty much what we expect with any new technology.

Better for the same price or similar at a cheaper price.

At current prices you're looking at around the same performance/£ as the last generation.

The performance has increased but the price has followed suit.

Must be me but i see the prices the same every gen. The same as in the faster cards carry a premuim, that premium varys with what its up against

Every gen normally brings better price / performance too, and ATI / AMD have always had a great high end performing card at around £200.

I agree with CAT-THE-FIFTH and Marine-RX179 this gen has been a massive disappointment for me. Never has last gen's GPUs seemed so attractive especially at £180 for a 6950 and they're only bound to get cheaper. What makes it better is you're not going to be missing out on much performance either by opting for one of the older cards.

Theres never going to be a game released that needs much more performance than the previous gen either, likely not until mid - end 2013 when GPUs will be another generation ahead.

+1. There's no spectacular games on the immediate Horizon so it's just a question of getting better performance in BF3 for 120Hz or multiple monitor setups and the like.

Everyone keeps talking about BF3 but I'm still not seeing any card being comfortable with Shogun 2 on a multi-screen set up...
