I've noticed a few different names of AMD processors for example, San Diego, Venice, Newcastle, and i'm wandering what advantages/disadvantages if any these have? and which would be the best buy?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

The San Diago and Venice are the two current cores AMD are using. The San Diago has a 1MB cache compared to the 512KB Venice core. This makes the San Diago more powerful but also more expensive.

EDIT: the Newcastle is slightly older, and fits a different socket. It has 512KB cache.
