Hello everyone,

As promised, Robert Hallock is here ready to answer any questions you may have about AMD’s Project FreeSync. Please keep in mind the session will last for one hour. If we’re not able to answer all your questions I will collect them and get you the answers in the next few days.

We’re ready, post away everyone!

Hello OCUK!

Please, I kindly ask you to stay on topic as much as possible.

As mentioned, if we can't answer all your questions, I will compile a list and respond to them later in the week...and beyond.

We start in 10 minutes from now :)

Afternoon gents,

How long do you think, roughly, it will be before the first 4K Freesync capable monitor is ready for release? Are these monitors already in production, or is it likely to be 1080P Freesync only for a while?

Will FreeSync offer all the benefits of Gsync and will it perform any better or worse? It if will, why?

Cheers :)

Hi LtMatt (good to see that you got your name back :D)

I as you can imagine we can't comment on the production status; that said we're expecting to see them during the first quarter of 2015.

Project FreeSync offers unique various benefits; one that I feel is important to me (and my fellow gamers) is the absence of "communication overhead" (simply put less coding, less time required to sync the display with the GPU), which results in higher performance.

Who and how many monitor vendors are on board?

will any vendor release a firmware update for currently capable monitors?

Hi Gregster,

I can't provide you the names and numbers of the vendors (manufacturers) right now. This information will become available as we get closer to Q4 of this year. I can assure you that Rob and I will share this information as soon as it becomes available to us with everyone here...and the world.

I guess there are a couple of reasons why all monitor won't have adaptive sync, because some monitors will be using Gysnc and some monitors will not need it. It would be foolish for anyone to think that all monitors would be freesync compatible.

You say adaptive sync is an optional part of 1.2a and not a part of 1.3 as yet. But surely, you must have some idea. At the Freesync demo back in January an AMD guy called Koduri went on about showing people the technology in DP 1.3.

Can you even tell us if you are even trying to make adaptive sync a requirement for DP 1.3?

I agree with you, it would be foolish to think so...overtime as the industry begins to adopt the standard, I'd hope to see more and more displays in the market. The AMD person you're referring to is Raja Koduri, our Corporate Vice President - Visual Computing.
