So right :)
Im buyin a new CPU mobo.. and Ram
but this is just about the CPU

Im not sure which one to have and i would like some help with it
I only want to spend around 300 less if i can
but i want a Quadcore :D so bad :)

So Can you tell me which i see much Diff between

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 810 2.6GHz (Socket AM3)

nd

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (Socket AM3)

I know itz a BE so it would be easy to OC but i don;t do much things which are CPUage..

It will be for Avg use but for Game Aswell Because i got a 4850 at home :)
Games like COD4.. (MW2 when it comes out) odd Crysis and GTA4 and Render the Odd Vid With Vegas pro For youtube :D!

I have a 1080P monitor Think the BE one will help me with that Res?

So yh Think i will see much Diff Between both CPU i don't have loads of cash as im a student lol so think im best goin with the cheaper 1 and just OCin?

I'd definitely try and go for the 955 if you can, will be great for gaming and can can clock to around 3.8. Plus if you're mainly using it for gaming its great as its performance is very comparable to the i7 920, its just cheaper! (that includes the mobo and ram) Couple it with a 4890 and you're away.

The 810 is a great chip, it has a low TDP and overclocks nicely. If you're on a budget, that's the one to go for. The 955 is the top of the range (about to be 965). The 940 is a good chip too, and you could also save money on the motherboard.

I've also heard things about Athlon Quad's, but no release date yet.

Your refresolution is affected by the monitor's refresh rate.

Your frame rate in gaming can be affected by either your GPU or your CPU's clock rate ie. World of Warcraft.

If you are not a clocker and want to get the best out of the box, then you can look into getting the newly released AMD 965 which runs at 3.4Ghz stock.

i will OC but do i really need to with a quadcore just for game mostly like COD4 and MW2 when ti comes out?
As i only eva play Crysis to show off to my friends lol...

Do you think there will be new 1s out in the next month or 2?

Get the X2 550 @ £77, it's virtually as fast as the £145 X4 955 after unlocking the 2 extra cores, and half the price - you can put the money saved into other components or just pocket it :D The 550 is the cheapest way to get a very fast quadcore hands down...

But it's just luck on if you can unlock the cores and if said cores are even stable enough to boot.

yh i heard that
thats why they are x2 and not x4 because some of the cores are faulty..
*not all* but you have to be lucky to get a none faulty 1

Look at the 550 thread in this forum & others, the success rate is something like 80%, and quite a few of the failures are people using motherboards and/or bioses without the needed options. You can get 2 x 550's for the same price, and the chances are then very high that at least 1 will work (most likely both of them will) - you can then flog the other and still have 4x3.1Ghz for 77 quid ;)

But hey, this is "overclockers" after all, you're taking a risk with any CPU that you overclock - it may not overclock at all! :) Core unlocking is virtually the same thing.

Do you mean that you don't do that many CPU heavy tasks? If so, are you sure that you want a fast (and expensive) quad core? Maybe dual core would be better suited to your needs and budget.
For instance the 965 mentioned here will already use 2/3 of your budget!

If you get the X4 955 for Crysis it peaks at 3.6GHz with a GTX295 anything after that your talking 2FPS per 100MHz overclock after that.

It's a good CPU. :)

i want a quad core so it lasts longer and i neva had one and i did say if i upgraded i would deffo go fr a quad thats why i was asking if the low AMD quad was good or do i need the 150 quid quad core to see the power lol

i think im goin get the AMD x4 810 because it cheap quad core and from what som1 said as im not going to do anything which will max the CPU out it would be a waste plus it would take me abit longer to save up for it :)! so thanks for the help
:D:D

Considered an X3 720BE - tri core with unlocked multi? Sounds like a good compromise for you.
