i was reading on the net about the on die memory controller that features on the 939 athlon. I was wondering if the AM2 chip includes this technology and if so how does this fair up to the CD2 chip in games like fear/oblivion/stalker?

The AM2 has one just like the S939 Athlons, but it even with it, it cant compete with the C2D.
The C2D just has more cpu power, buckets of L2 cache so it doesnt need to use RAM as often, and the memory controllers on "most" 775 motherboards are no slouches either.

Indeed, the amd used to use ram a lot more often due to less and slower l1 and l2 cache's, intells have miles faster and a lot more cache and it makes up for the reduced latency of the ram, also the latency isn't that bad at all, ie max 25 ns for ram, amd have 50ish ns. for 2x1 gb, intel on an old 945 chipset just 75 ns. , the c2d is just a lot better compared to amd's stuff at the moment, the cache ammount&speed more than makes up for the small difference in RAM latency...

As for processing power, amd is put to shame by a core 2 duo, even if both are overclocked to the max...
