AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

now im at 1333mhz 6-6-6-20 1t 1.75v

i've ram prime95 for about 30min without issues, ill test it longer tomorrow...

but tbh i really wanna try to get 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 stable...

now im at 1333mhz 6-6-6-20 1t 1.75v

What sort of volts you running the cpu-nb at i had to increase by 0.075V to get 3.8Ghz stable at 8,8,8,24,2T,1600MHZ using 1.65V for the ram

chip still idles under 30 and only hits low 50's under high stress from prime95 (altho i am using a baram in push/pull)

TBH i've not read all your post but at a guess i imagine your trying to get 3.8GHz prime blend stable at 1600Mhz with tight timings. Please correct me if i was wrong.

P:S we have practically identical mobo's so if u need/wanna share info/findings then let me know

well i've got 3.8ghz fully stable with 1.45v (was fully stable with 1.25v before) but the ram isn't stable at stock settings which is 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 2t 17v, i've tryed upping the voltage to 1.8v which helped a lot but still wasn't fully stable, then i tryed upping the cpu-nb to 1.35v but that didn't help at all...

You have to remember tho that the IMC is only rated for 1333Mhz using 1600Mhz ram is basically drawing more from the IMC thus it might need a considerable volt increase to both the ram and CPU-NB.

What ram are you using?
Have you tried an exteded memtest minimum of 10 hours might pick up something on 1 pass that the other passes didn't

yes i know about the IMC.

but i had a 720 cpu and the ram was the same on that. i would understand if one of the cpu IMC was weaker than the other, but they both got the same results in terms of the ram.

as for increasing the voltage to both the ram and CPU-NB, i have tryed that (ram to 1.8v, cpu-nb to 1.35v), upping the cpu-nb did nothing tbh..

the ram im using is Patriot AMD Gamer Series PGS34G1600LLKA

i don't use memtest ... i use prime95 on blend which picks things up quick..

at the moment am running prime95 on blend with 1333mhz 6-6-6-20 1t 1.75v , which as been running for 5hours so far without errors.

(i think this is the longist post i've posted.. lol)

I can change my multiplyer in the bios but the maximum is x15.5 which is the default!? So im stuck changing my FSB speed?

MB - Asus M4A785TD-M

I have installed latest bios n have a Phenom II X2 550 BE

Am I missing a BIOS setting?

This is what I ordered from OCUK and what on recipt:

AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition (Socket AM3) - Retail

I can't see 'Black Edition' on the box though, should it say that on the box? How do I tell?

Hello, doing my first overclock and been advised to post here. My system is:
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 785G Socket AM3
Arctic Power 700W PSU
Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 HyperX Memory
Sapphire HD 4870 512MB GDDR5

I have increased the cpu multiplier to x18 and the system in nice and stable.

Just need advice what I should do now, Im also looking at buying an coolermaster tx3 so keep everything cool also.

Please go easy on me im very much a beginner with overclocking.

Thank You, Robb

|cJ| - I think this is what the box should look like. Says black edition processor under the logo.

EDIT: whoops lots of posts in the time it takes to reply!

Dougie - Nice one :). Have you run prime95 on that? What sort of temps are you getting on the stock cooler under load?

Yeah I have run Prime95, but only for an hour or so, when I saw the temps when running it which were around 54 I decided to turn it off lol Im a bit scared of all this. The temp is 31.5 at idle. Thats using overdrive to monitor temps, however I raised the multiplier via bios

Think the uprated cooler is a must and then I can move forward
