o right thanks for that, the prime test shutdown my computer again!! I checked the results and it was showing that everything passed so why does it keep shutting down and not just failing the test? think i will try 1.4vcore and see how that goes

Started clocking mine from scratch again, all on stock/auto so far and seeing how far it can be pushed. Pretty impressive so far, hoping to break that 4ghz barrier
As gareth170 suggests a few posts up, bluescreen-reboot is probably cpu voltage/frequency, a graceful test failure is probably cpu-nb voltage/frequency, or the memory itself.
To a degree, I think bluescreens are Windows' way of telling you it thinks the CPU is spitting out wrong numbers and it's going to shut down now so as not to totally knacker the OS...

After 3 1/2 hrs of prime my computer once again shut down! 
I cant quite see why
1.4v would not be enough for 3.6ghz, i have everything else set to auto maybe i need to tweak something i just really dont no answers on a post card?

*edit* d'oh, unlucky liamcrane. What have you got your cpu-nb voltage at? I found I was undervolting mine badly (1.1) and upping to 1.2 stabilised it. Also got my HT at 2200MHz, which for reasons unknown seemed to help...
With the above I'm much amazed at having just hit 11 hours of prime time @3.6 on a 1.3675 vcore - which comes down to 1.343 under load. Reckon if it's not died by the time I've had a shower, then it's time for a beer
SpAceD I'm not really sure about the issue with chipsets vs Overdrive, but I don't think AOD is particularly mandatory; although admittedly the lack of in-windows adjustment is a little annoying, a good decade's worth of overclockers have managed to use BIOS just fine ^^

hi eddie, im gutted lol, my cpu-nb is just set to auto not sure exactly what it is whats the best way to find what voltage its at? as for HT i dont really understand what it is and how it works im kinda new to all this . Im just running memtest on my two 2gb sticks just to rule out a memory problem i have left both sticks in for the test hope it wont effect it, im hoping for no errors there shouldnt be i have never had problems before even when playing games like crysis on stock settings, if i had bad ram im sure i would have known about it by now.

And since I've just had a full 12 hour blend work out @3.6GHz, I believe my first screenshot is in order
I'm gonna be cheeky enough to consider that "at stock voltage," since it comes down to 1.34 after vdroop at load
Max temp is a bit scary - maybe the zalman 9700 wasn't the best investment after all... though it idles on 34 degrees, so maybe it's more about venting hot air from the case.
And yeah, I know the memory timings are horrible; I just left it on defaults and 1.6v, so there's probably some slack in there to be taken up, but I'm intimidated by my BIOS at the mo, it seems to have twice as many settings as my old core2duo.
*edit* Cores are out of sync because I watched a couple of dvds and played an hour or two of warcraft - I guess if anything that's an even harder test of stability ^^;

I think by the sounds of it a little bit of extra volatge to the CPU-NB im hoping should stablize it, i really dont believe its the actual cpu voltage thats causing my reboots during testing cos 1.4v should be plenty for 3.6ghz

o right i see i hope my chips not a bad one lol, im in the process of running prime now on stock to see if i get any restarts and goona start from stock and work my way up slowly. I think im gonna up the CPU-NB at tad and see if that does anything when i try at 3.6 again.
One thing i am kinda keen to find out is how much more performance would you get from 3.2ghz to 3.6ghz when gaming, are we talking about something as low as 5fps? if so im thinking is OC really that important?

This is cooled by a zalman 9700 on low speed, with 2x low speed 120mm fans in an Akasa Zen case next to a radiator on the air intake side, and with no airflow from underneath
In practise, I've yet to see the temps break 50 in either of the two games I play, or during a 30 second photoshop/gimp filter.
...lol, popped the case open. Two mins later, loses 5 degrees, now idling at 29 on low fans... new case time, maybe. Suggestions on something of a similar size to a Zen and not overly expensive or noisy?
