AMD R280 poor desktop performance

Hey guys, I recently went to a R280 from a GTX570, I was not expecting a massive increase in performance, however I found that when using photoshop + 3ds max + marmoset toolbag 2 my frames drop a lot and the computer starts to choke. This is very much more noticeable compared to running the 570.

Am I missing some obvious settings in the CCC that is giving me worse performance than my old card? When running games I notice slightly better frames as expected, but anything over my 2 screens doing any 3d work its way worse.

Cheers!

The 570 is using CUDA while the 280X is using OpenCL.

The software might still think you have the 570 installed.

# You need to be sure the Nvidia drivers are gone and gone completely.

# Often the work application can install / activate plugins related to your GPU, if you change the GPU those plugins may still try using the new GPU not knowing it's no longer compatible.

# Sometimes you need third-party plugins to get the render on the GPU with AMD/OpenCL.

# Make sure you have all the relevant options set for OpenCL in the 'applications' preferences.

# Some older 3D / Imagery editing tools don't have OpenCL compatibility, for example PhotoShop CS4 doesn't while CS6 does.
so check the version / build to see if you need to update.

Cheers for the replies

I used a driver uninstaller to clear all the nvid stuff that might have been left over.

Are the opencl settings in CCC? Maybe I am being blind but I dont see anything about it in there.

It's nothing to do with CCC, OpenCL is just there, its provided when the application asks for it, so you need to tell the application that you have an OpenCL GPU.

For example :)
