should i get one of these things?

when it comes to graphics cards i wouldnt normaly ask i generaly know what i like and what i want
i ask because i bought myself a 144hz 1080p monitor and i wanna be getting as close to that 144hz as i can so im looking at crossfire/SLI

i had my heart set on a GTX 770 SLI setup but all i keep hearing is AMD this AMD that mantle mantle mantle

now as far as i know AMD has pretty much always had dodgy crossfire drivers wich cause a fair bit of stutter i dont see the point of getting over 100fps if its just stuttering allover the place that to me is an unplayable game
AMD has claimed to have fixed thee crossfire driver issues but according to some benchmarks i saw of a 280x crossfired with a 7970 wich showed frame times that really doesnt seem to be the case

i dunno in my head im still thinking an SLI 770 setup is the way to go am i being dumb and just worrying about nothing? is AMD 280x crossfire infact the way to go?

and whats the deal with this mantle crap? everyone is totaly freaking there **** over it
it isnt even out yet all we know is what AMD marketing has told us about it and other peoples speculation... who knows whats its really gonna do and more importantly who knows how many games are actualy going to support it, as of right now the only one i know of is BF4 im not building my rig for BF4 it will probaly only make up about 3% of what i acctualy play

thats pretty much all i have to say so feel free to share your oponions and advice
bare in mind wether i go nvidia or AMD it will be a crossfire/SLI setup so i dont wanna hear ooooh just buy a single 780! or anything like that
and lets try and keep fanboy ******** out of it aswell

I my self am using nvidia sli setup and it's flawless so i can't talk about AMD,I'll give you my suggestions though.

Wait for that 290x come out,Look at the benchmarks price to performance ratio.

A more powerful single card is better in my opinion cause you have to realise with SLI/Crossfire,Noise and heat increases significantly if that's a thing that bothers you.

Also you didn't say what games you were playing,Because SLI/Crossfire might be a must have depending on what games you're trying get 144fps for your Monitor to work.

i am leaning towards nvidia because i know SLI is solid... i might wait and see how much the 290x is going to cost im on abit of a tight budget so the plan is to buy a card now the 770 being the most exspensive one i can afford and then add the second one in later... from what ive heard the 290x is supposed to be competing with the 780/titan so crossfire on those would be pretty epic but i dont know if i can manage that on my PSU i bought a corsair AX 860 watt

as far as games i didnt list any because to be quite honest i play a lot of games and i do wanna get up to or as close as possible to my 144 fps in as many games as possible
as far as heat goes my case has pretty good airflow noise wont really be that much of a problem either if i set up some custom fan profiles

An AX860 isn't going to have any issues powering a couple of 290x's. Setting aside 140 watts for the other components leaves 60 amps for the 2 cards, the 780/Titans use about 20 amps for comparison.

Your PSU's not an issue, your budget might be :p

If you definitely want Nvidia over AMD and a 770 is what you can afford now then I guess get a 770?

The AMD cards are considerably better value for money at the moment, Nvidia may drop their prices of course with the launch of the new AMD's, though there's no guarantee. Unfortunately we just have to wait and see.

yeah thats why i havnt gone ahead and bought anything yet waiting to see if theres going to be any price cuts

i think im going to wait till the 290x launches see how much thats going to cost... im still worried about AMD crossfire though there drivers arent usualy the best

as far as the whole mantle thing goes i heard that its open? that means theres no real reason why nvidia couldnt use it aswell if turns out to be as good as AMD claims right?

Seems no about of fact/figure/money/whatever is going to convince you that xfire is good, just do us(and yourself) a favour and get the 770 and be done with it.

Its all about the Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Toxic OC i cant wait for this friday , the cards desgin looks amazing plus the reviews for it looks great, i mean ye i might need 2 pay an extra 60 quid and i dont get games with it but , for the performance i defo want it

i didnt say it was the same price i said its AROUND the same price and i dont really care about the gold ticket i care about the best hardware for my money

The Matrix Platinum from Asus at £220 is the best hardware for your money, you can even flash the R280 bios to it giving you an R280 Platinum if the R280 is so important to you.

There is only 33 left now, it's a bargain, be quick.

isnt that the one with 3 fans on it? might be a little loud for a crossfire setup
just looked up some benchmarks on it, its getting pretty close to a GTX 780 in most of the tests
