AMD R9 290 power question

Hi Chaps

I am thinking of purchasing either a 280 or 290 in the new year. I have noticed for the 290's that it needs at least a 750w psu to run it according to the specs.

I only have a 650w corsair psu and i will likely buy a 280 instead if a new psu is needed to run a 290.

Does anyone have a 290 running on a 650watt psu? Is a 750w psu really needed?

the 280x's require a recommended 750watt psu to, infact the 280x toxic requires a lot more power than a 290 but im unning on a 650watt and its more than fine, so dunna worry

I'm running a R9 290 + i7 Haswell on a Be Quiet 680W Gold power supply. If you have a look at reviewers it seems that what AMD put as their requirements is several hundred W's more than what the card actually draws.

Awesome! I think ill take the risk then. My trusty corsair psu has never let me down with power yet

Yeah i'm even running a 550w corsair with a 290 so yours should definitely be okay

I know Gigabyte recommend a 600W PSU for their R9 280X Windforce OC cards (and they're factory oc'd to 1100MHz too).
