AMD Radeon HD 6870 Reference Design * First Pics *

as usual lots of smoke and mirrors around a new cards release.

will be getting a new performance card soon so while Im interested in how thse will stack up I can definitly wait till I see end user reviews post release.

Well, it's worthy of discussion. Afterall, the Fermi leaks about inefficiency and poor yields turned out to be accurate.

even if it is true, it's only going to be people who can't be bothered to research which is which that will be caught out. as said, most people going for a top end gpu will be fairly internet savvy...

Precisely, basing your purchase on the product name instead of trying to get real information as to how they perform. It's they're own fault. People have to learn to help themselves in regards to this.

Well I have sold my 5850 just now to maximise my return as waiting any longer could only result in less money. Getting buy on a 4350 just now, so no gaming. Hoping for a 6870 around Xmas time, maybe earlier if they are out in the states while on holiday there from the 16th October for two weeks. I should be so lucky!:D

likely means a 6970 which should be the cayman xt.

So you have no issue with the Nvidia shambles either then with the card naming convention, fair enough.

p.s I dont believe you, your just sticking up for your beloved ATI ;)

Can't say as I have ever taken the slightest bit of notice of how an internal component looks to be honest!

True, granted i know there a few of us with see-through cases and LED's on the inside, but after i insert my card i never see it again for a couple fo years until i have to open the case again to yank it out

I don't give a flying monkeys what it looks like, i just want to be cool, quite and very fast. And if that means it looks like Yoda took a dump then so be it.

can someone please tell me
when amd showcase this next week or when ever, will benchmarks be released right away ?, i mean do reviews have new amd cards now like they did with fermi ?

any guesses how much it will cost?

going to sell my 5870 when this gets released to go towards getting one.

hope its not some daft price.

^^ you're going to sell your 5870 to fund the purchase of a 6870, a card which is looking to be slower than a 5870.
I think it's fair to assume that they were referring to whichever card will replace the 5870 in the 6xxx series - whether it's called the 6870 or the 6990. I don't think anyone would take a loss selling their card in order to buy a less powerful card.

I'm betting the 6870 will be slower than a 5870, in that case the naming scheme if correct is dubious at best.

I feel the same really, even if they doing it because of when fusion comes out like some have said it still feels wrong maybe it not the same as nvidia but it feels a bit like it.

I don't see anything positive with this if it is true, only confusion for people who buy it and may be led on who don't know.

edit- i don't know why amd would do this if they do this, they must know what sort of flak nvidia as gotten over this kind of crap in the last few years, i just feel there is no need for this if it happens
