AMD Radeon R9 200 Series resolution issues

Hey.

I have just bought a new monitor. I also own a PC from overclockers with an AMD Radeon R9 200 Series. Unfortunately, I'm maxing out at 3840x1080 with no better resolution available. I tried downloading new software for my graphics card but was hit with an error - 'driver signature'. I'm not sure what that means.

Generally looking for some advice as I'm unsure if my graphics card is simply not good enough or if it is a driver issue.

Appreciate any help!

It's an old GPU and may not support that resolution, also you'll probably find that the gpu will idle high. When I tried running my 290x at 4k in 2012, just sitting on desktop doing nothing the card would run at 50c due to drawing lots of power

Those old cards were not designed for high resolutions

What is the exact model of gpu? A gpu can support different resolutions depending on the interface used. Is it DP or HDMI or DVI?
Just search on google for maximum resolution for your gpu and you will find the answer.

I googled the graphics card and I think that it would have DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 1.4a, which doesn't appear to support that resolution in a computer monitor (60 Hz).

I`m been using a 290x (and in X-fire until recently) for a long time at 3840x2160 at 60Hz via mini display port on a BenQ 32inch 4k monitor.
I usually have to reduce the resolution in most/newer games, on windows 10 and 7 before that, maybe check you have the right cables for the intended resolution :)

OP you need to post which card you have as R9 200 covers a lot of SKUs.

It would also be an idea to upgrade to Win10 to avoid software problems.

How much wattage does it pull at idle?

To confirm my old R9 290 does 4K but with modern stuff I do tend to have crashes - still very capable after all these years especially at 1080p

No idea, but is using 0.993V according to HWMonitor.
I am using a very old i7 3700k based system, waiting for supply (and price) improvements for an upgrade to AMD 5950x and 6800xt.
