AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

My guess (and I stress it is only a guess) is that as the 295x2 usages voltage control to adjust the fan speed and you're trying to use a voltage reducing cable that it's dropped the voltage too low for the fans to start. Some fans won't run directly from the header on the card (the Noctua's AMD Matt uses for example) as they seem to need more power than is supplied so by reducing the voltage even further you've probably dropped it too low. I'd say just try the fans without the cable, they shouldn't be too loud from other people experience and even if you do get them running very slow you may well just end up with your card throttling all the time anyway due to not providing enough cooling.

Thats really nice. :)

Question, i'm looking at the back of the card and i'm sure i can see memory IC's, it looks like they have Memory IC's on both sides on the card.

Is that right?

Yeah memory both side of card. got a 120mm fan blowing across the card temps on card great.
was going to buy a backplate but for £30+ delivery is a bit much.
not really needed.

For an 8GB dual card that is interesting.

4GB and 8GB single GPU cards have 16 IC's on the front side.

It looks like the 295X2 has a total of 64 IC's: 32 on the front - 16 per GPU, 32 on the back - again 16 per GPU.

It's sold as an 8GB card, these days we take it for granted that with Dual GPU's it means it has 8GB on it but can only use 4GB.

With 4x as many IC's would the 295X2 not infact be a 16GB card with 8GB usable?

Or am i missing something?
