just been given a code for amd ramdisk software, splashtop and firefall... what are the first two for and does anybody use them ? and also is the game worth downloading if anyone has played it ? cheers

RAMDISK is an application that allows you turn part of your system RAM into a usable drive with miles better performance then any SSD with read and write speeds greater then 4 Gb per second bur come with a cost, when a ramdisk is installed the total usable memory in your is reduced by the size equal to that of the disk and the other main draw back is that when you shut down your computer all data on the drive is lost, AMD Ramdisk does have an option so that this doesn't happen but it will save all the data onto your HDD or SSD meaning longer shut down times. The other performance hit is the boot time as the drive will to be built up quickly from data held on the other drives meaning if you install your games to the Ramdisk you will need to wait a little longer to access them.

Splashtop is just remote desktop software for inside the home (might be able for access over the internet but not sure)... It pretty low latency is what I've found, and good software to use. There are also Android and iOS apps so you can control your PC from mobile devices also.

I love it when you talk dirty. :p

Thanks Wilko_Dog, you give you some idea of the performance of a RAMDISK I have just run a quick benchmark for you comparing SSD to a RAMDISK.

:D cheers ! It is quite a bit quicker then .. Would this effect my perfomance in games using this ? I'm not too fussed for load times as I like to play competitive mp games, so got to wait until everybody is ready anyway ! But I would use it if it didn't effect in game performance , I have 6gb (3x2) of ram and it says it recommends atleast 4 :)

You will not see any benefit then, you can install games on to the RAMDISK but it will only really effect loading times (I run Skyrim off my RAMDISK as the loading times on that game with all the mods I have is horrid if I used an HDD! they are better on an SSD much none basically on the RAMDISK which is why I use it).

If you ever did use a RAMDISK on your rig I wouldn't go larger then 2GB and leave yourself 4GB of RAM that is usable by the rest of the system.

RAMDISK's are great for Photoshop, Rendering or Video Editing though when you have a couple of Gigabyte files.... basically any apllication where really really fast storage is required (or games with silly long loading times).
