AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

What an underwhelming GPU. The 7900XTX makes the Rtx 4080 look good.

Said it before AMD ain’t got jack in this this possible nothing coming from AMD for many gens coming in the consumer market.

Sad affair. Bad for consumer.

And charging people over £1000 for this kind of paper weight with the extortionate pricing of zen4 and 600 series chipset. AMD has successfully morphed into Intel and Ngreedia truly. While offer none of the competitive edge Intel and Nvidia offer during their dominance.

AMD is now synonymous with mediocre and high prices…bye bye AMD

I just watched the Hardware Unboxed review.

The 7900XTX is only 25% faster across the 13 games they tested, that's including two games where it beat the 4090 by 5% at 4K.

The performance delta for the 7900XTX over the 6950XT was mostly around 15 to 20%, one or two cases even 0%, that's really odd, and way down from the +50 to 70% AMD claimed, HUB used a lot of the games AMD used in their slides and the results fell very much short of those claims.

Is this an indication of a problem with it? There are instances where the performance is phenomenal, beating the 4090, other instances where its frankly bad, but mostly when compared with the 6950XT clearly under-performing.

Hardware unboxed were the best reviewer in my opinion they seemed to have a good balance and a larger range.

My general conclusion is that is is hit and miss.

If you use 4k or have an older CPU then the 7900XTX (the difference is more in AMDs favour in 4k over 1440p) is the better choice.

If you use lower res monitors the gap isn't as big and I lean more towards Nvidia.

There are 2 variables though. Ray-Tracing and Compatibility.

How much value do you place on RT with 4080s only 70 more expensive than a 7900xtx I don't think that's a bad markup £70 for overwhelmingly better RT performance.

The second with compatibility it's fair enough saying a 4080 is only 70 more but do you need a new PSU or Case to fit it? If so the value easily then switches to the 7900xtx as just to get that extra RT performance you could be splashing out 200+ on a power supply or Case or even both.

Really the biggest thing for me is there is no longer a clear winner I expected AMD to easily win in Rasta I'm surprised its only neck and neck after how close they were with the 6000 series and Nvidia haven't even done their 4090ti yet it seems AMD won't even get close this generation.

It also seems most of AMDs marketing was just heavily exaggerated, Average uplift of 15-20% I think most expected 40-50% up over the 6950xt, and the power efficiency I'm mean Jesus Christ how did they have the gaul to make those claims AFTER the 4080 was released and they knew it's power usage.

That exactly line, word for word has been posted by quite a few different people in here now......
I think that would be world wide reception of that card. AMD hyped it up so much everyone thought it will sit between 4090 and 4080 with 4080 on spec is a 4070 in reality.

Most likely not as AMD are in the consoles. Game developers would be shooting themselves in the foot.

It has no benefit nor does it do any harm to amd hardware so can't see why developers wouldn't enable/use it on PC especially since it is apart of UE now unless amd sponsor titles and block it....

Given nvidia sponsor a lot of titles on pc compared to amd, we'll be seeing it a fair bit especially with any games modded using remix.

Same question to you as @harmattan do you think AMD just deliberately tried to pull the wool over our eyes? Genuine question.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but in one of the biggest PC, AAA games, Total War: WH3, the 6900XT is not fast enough.

In terms of pricing, I will go for 999 GBP inc. VAT for the 7900XTX reference.

Considering people here were smashing 1,899 down for a 3090ti 12 (ish) months ago, 999inc for a 7900XTX reference is what progress looks like.

Is the card worth 999inc for playing Total War WH3? Against the 4080/4090, absolutely it is. Is it worth 1299+ for a 7900XTX custom model? No.

I play TW WH3 just fine on my RX 6800 at 3440x1440. Is not an fps game that needs 100+ fps so lesser cards work just fine. I may still get the 7900xtx but it is not just to play Warhammer.

There are rumors of a price cut on the 4080 in mid-December. If this gets so close to the 7900XTX in pricing, this card is virtually DOA.

I think AMD will drop their price by the same amount.

IMO if they want make Nvidia's camp-fire damp they need to drop the price anyway, by at least $100, if the performance was where AMD claimed it would be it would have been a great GPU in comparison to the 4090 let alone the 4080, but it isn't, not even close, so its got to be what its actually performing at, not where they may have expected it.

This card is DOA already. For someone spending £1000 on a card with no real RT perf and sub-par upscaling, why would anyone choose the 7900XTX over 4080 or even the 4090 for that matter.

- inferior RT
- inferior upscaling
- inferior driver
- inferior tech (other than gaming graphics)
- next to useless for render perf in comparison to Nvidia
- next to useless for AI in comparison to Nvidia

7900XTX finds itself in a strange position where it’s ONLY advantage is pricing against its competition. It’s technologically an inferior product by almost every metric.

So if it is not DOA already I don’t know what is.

AMD fan boys are going to be having a good time spinning this one around the corner.

I think AMD's new cards are only about 100 dollars too expensive with the 4080 at least 200 too expensive. At least MSRP wise, have to see what UK stock/pricing is like first.

Should have got that 6900XT Bug - too asrock for you ? :p

A bit disappointing overall. I like AMD hardware but I'm not afraid to speak my mind when I think they are doing something off/wrong/stupid. Even though the 4090 is much more expensive, it comes off looking better. It hurts me to say this as I really dislike Jensen and his mentality. Sure the 7900XTX looks overall like a better buy than the 4080 however, I find it concerning the results fluctuate so much which subtracts from its value IMHO. Something is going on with the driver or hardware or perhaps both. Looking forward to see the 7900XTX tested in Linux. Going to be interesting to see the card benchmarked again in 6 months time as I wonder if the chiplet approach is giving them some pain right now.

I agree completely with Gamers Nexus. ******** stop with the 8k marketing BS already.

You're talking about this, but what about the second image?

This is all basic Quality, turn up the settings and see what happen's. and its just one game. the 7900xtx is not as good as AMD wanted, thats why there were no slides against even the 3090ti on show unlike 6900xt release. I wanted AMD to be smack in the middle of 4090 and 4080 performance, but its not, and turn on RT its not even close. A shame as i wanted AMD to do real well with RDNA3 but its a let down.
