AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

you mean the thing used in like 40+ games that is becoming a standard feature? maybe AMD users only play indie games though

one of the AIB boards has 3 pins.

sounds like the 4090 series where they are maxed out and not limited by watts anyway though
40+ games. There are thousands of games available. How many of those 40 is RT required to play the game? 1? 2?

I see a valiant effort to make this thread about the emotional and monetary value of RT again.
Its because RT is all they have left. As soon as AMD matched (sometimes surpassed) them with raster, they had to move the goal posts to some new must have feature.

Erm, I notice idle power on AMD Ryzen platform is way less than intels monolithic dies

I used to have Intel Gold 8500 with a B series board and a AMD Ryzen 3100 with B series board.

Despite the Ryzen having more cores and chiplet in design the total platform power usage is way down compared with Intelwhich was a monolithic die.

It was 30w vs 45w idle. I would be interested in knowing where you get your chiplet consume more power theory from?

From die power usage perspective a chiplet design should be lower power consumption in ALL use cases that’s full on work load as well as idle. Power efficiency is the name of the game for chiplets.
The Ryzen chiplet CPU's have much higher idle power consumption than the monolithic CPU's, that's a fact not a theory. My 5950x would consume around 40w while idle compared to around 5w for my 5700G. That's just the power from the CPU, not total system power.

I could be wrong but I believe it's something to do with the IO die not being able to power down properly as it has to constantly communicate with the chiplets.

if you want to spend 1k to turn features down then you do that, thousands available your never going to revisit...
or you could just get a 3080/3090 and save yourself some cash for the same performance
I have a feeling that the 40 days delay is planned, by the time RDNA3 is released, Nvidia will be forced to call back all the 4000 series cards so AMD wins the perf crown and the 3090 level of RT performance will become legendary again. :)
dream the dream, do all AMD users own AMD stock or what?

It’s boring mate, truly pathetic how some behave.
Why do you think I went dark for 24 hours here and elsewhere just before the announcement?

I’ve been through almost 9 Years of product launches now, and it’s always best to give it it 24-48 hours before it’s safe to emerge.

Definitely the best thing to do. What worries me most is that some appear to be grown adults behaving this way. We have held off suspending people but some just do not listen. A couple more are on the brink sadly.

Anyway, back on topic :)

In this poll ray tracing only comes fourth. The problem is that even on Nvidia cards the performance impact is still nowhere near worth it for the visual improvement. More performance would always be welcome but for the foreseeable future ray tracing will be a secondary consideration for most people.

I'm pretty certain the RDNA 2 thread also ended up locked as well. I can't remember if it was permanent or temporary though. Just an interesting observation.

40+ games that still sell poorly and games that will still be terribly optimised.

Never mind both AMD and Nvidia trying to normalise £1000 plus graphics card products.

As long as DLSS and FSR exists, its saying the same thing that paying £1600 plus to be playing at a lower setting.

Ray tracing is awesome, but it will never get traction if PC games sell awfully, in fact the projected best selling game on PC with Ray tracing will be world of warcraft dragonflight, the next game that was best selling was elden ring, that has no ray tracing.

its not about users with good enough hardware, PC gamers dont buy in the same units as console, they just dont, in short, I wouldnt expect anything from devs to care to really build a game for ray tracing from scratch for PC if will not sell.

Every other PC game sells like an indie title by the way, which is why devs will always treat PC gamers 2nd rate and that wont change.

I don't recall but I think the issue is largely the amd threads get brigaded by people who have no interest and no intention of buying amd products and only wish to have their buying choices validated by others.

I've noticed a similar trend on various different forums

Wish we would get some actual performance leaks. Another 5 weeks of waiting seems excessive

Is it too.much to hope for a release that Includes the entire stack and has availability 1 week afterward

With this launch it looks like both companies have different targets and valid products. I wish all cards were a good 33% cheaper from both but sadly that isn't the world we live in.

I am looking at a 7900XTX depending on real world pricing, because to me it shows the best performance per £ for what I want.

Have you seen how the shop falls over when one gpu is launched. Imagine a full gpu stack. The server might just peace out for good .:p
