AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

The surprising number of people willing to spend tens of thousands on a Rolex is more or less testament that the ultra high end will continue on, and probably grow.
But the regular stutter fest from every pc port regardless of the capability of the pc, has me seriously reconsidering my hobby of the last 30 years.

A Rolex can be an investment so it isn't comparable to a GPU.

If people want to do that that's fine.

The problem is they are trying to bring the cost up for everyone, its not just that a high end card is now $1700+, a mid range card is now $1200+, Nvidia wanted lower end cards to be $900+ and they might still be, the entry level, RTX 4050 to 4060 might be $400 to $700.

You know what it is, investors want to see constant profit increases, if profits aren't going up they take their money out, that's what they are afraid of, its a bit like a Ponzi Scheme, get investment must increase profits to get more investment..... eventually you end up asking for too much profit and when that happens you can't keep your investments.

Nvidia are at the point now where they really need us to pay for their investments, they are going to keep doing that until we tell them NO! Nvidia's market cap will crash and burn but that's their problem, not ours.

In other news, the most popular card on Steam went from the 1060 to... the 1650. Similar capability if not less and it's a clear signal of how much most people can really afford.
We need a $200-250 card with at least 8GB RAM and better than RX6500 performance, anything more expensive will fail to make a dent in the market...

Its a higher refresh rate 1080P card, entry level 1440P.

For under £250, can't ask for more than that, to get the equivalent from Nvidia it'll cost you near £400.

That's where we are at, if there was any justice in this AMD would be at 85% market share, not the other way round.

and the card sends data back to nvidia on how many hours it's been used. The PCP is 48 months / 730 hours a year lol You also have to hand the card back in pristine condition, any damage is taken off the price or they'll then sell you an insurance product to protect it

Base Price £2,449
Options - RGB Lights, Black PCB, Braided Power cable - £449
Dealer discount - £449
GFV - £249
PCP - 48 Months, 730hrs
Deposit - £500
Finance 8.9% APR

Nvidia Premium Plan (Early Access Driver Updates) £10 per month
Financial Insurance Policy £10 per month
Service Plan for 4yrs (inc Next Day Swap, Yearly Health Check) £20 per month
Jensen should make us Nvidia finance directors

A Rolex will increase your chances of getting laid.

I cannot imagine waving a 4080 around would have the same effect. Possibly the reverse.

Actually what I think will happen eventually is that they are making GPU's increasingly expensive so in a couple of years they will be sold like car PCP's or mobile phone contracts.

You take out a contract for say a RTX 5090 which costs £3000 to buy outright or you pay say £200 per month on a 2 year contract (total cost £4800) and at the end of the term you hand it back and get rolled onto a new RTX 6090 contract. That way Nvidia tie you into their product
Stop giving them ideas!!! :p

I’m going to have to be that guy and state that geek bench scores are meaningless

Think I'd rather have the 3090ti then
