AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

Nothing has been confirmed but once the chips are out in the wild it soon will be. Typically all the big three all tend to laser/fuse off parts on higher end chips, you might get lucky on lower end models but don't hold your breath.
nV and AMD have certainly tightened their process around cutting down chips, so like I said, probably wishful thinking. After digging more, it sounds like they'll be replacing the disabled SU with dummy silicon (although some intrepid tweaker should confirm this is the case with a 7900xt). In any case, it has almost always been only the first batches where these sorts of tricks are possible (except for the vanilla 6800 on which you could unmask to a GT for its entire run, if I recall).

Ah, the good old days... When you could install a new bios or even just click a toggle a box to step up to a better model.

Please for the love of god give us some good prices :o

Where possible we try, but some of the margin expectations from some AIB's and GPU manufacturer is ludicrous as they expect us to make 5-6% margin on our cost from them, once we factor in shipping cost and overheads we would be losing money. That is typically the issue, from time to time I get a really strong exclusive deal like the 6900 XT's and the early 3080 12G deals, where I get to buy in USD very well giving both a low end user price but normally better margin for us as well. Then factor in stuff like 4080's where we typically make a loss but as they are selling now I am happy even if doing so cost us money.

That is why MSRP's can SOMETIMES be an issue, they tend to be supported by a rebate for just a small launch allocation of stock or they calculate around 5% margin for the reseller but fail to realise after we've paid to ship them and our overheads there is no money left in it.

I am always pushing back complaining about pricing and the past month buying what I actually want and not what they want to sell me, running lean stock to move quickly to any changes, also means stock is building up at distributor/AIC levels so I would hope next year there will be price cuts because prices are getting cut and not just because of exchange rate improvement.

Performance aside the AMD card will be popular simply because it is so much smaller, regular power connectors and cost less.
As always with AMD whatever the performance is today, you can be sure that in 6 months time it will probably gain 15-25% more performance from updates as well. :)

LMAO the 4080 looks ridiculous besides the new AMD cards, a bit like a 80s CRT TV vs a modern OLED. I mean who wouldn't want a 3 foot deep TV now? - Those were the days, moving those hulking beasts around...

These reference cards are mega looking. I nice subtle evolution over the 6000 series. I’ve had a reference 6800/6900Xt and 6950XT over the last few years and they’ve all been amazing. Very quiet, sensible size.

I really want one of these even though I don’t need it :P

No joke, i rolled one down some stairs when my hand slipped, dad ducked out the way and the CRT went through the dry wall  .

Dagnabbit Gibbo, your honest and reasonable explanations always net sales from me. A shame you're needing to fight for margins like that (even moreso than in the past).

So... you gonna be helping us forum users get a cheeky first dibs XD?

Not gonna lie they look slip and I would be happy with that reference design in my PC!

Ooo, will watch reviews with interest next week! For some reason I thought the reviews weren't due until January, so that's a nice surprise. Fingers crossed for reasonable UK pricing too.

Why would you think Jan when they're out in December?

In generall Reviews either come out on the day or the day before the release (depending on how confident the companies behind the product XD)
