AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

Okay bur the 7900xtx is actually priced at the right point to the 6900xt (being the differemc eis the exchange rate difference).

It is the 7900xt (7800xt) that's £150-£200 too much. And it's fine to not buy either but previous couple of gens from AMD were priced better for their performance to price side and yet made zero difference to sales, its pretty much always been same too. They have tried to win market share by being significantly cheaper for same or similar performance and it made zero difference to them in terms of market share.

Giving their cards away compared to Nvidia this gen seems it generally wouldn't of been enough. It isn't going to get any better the next generation which is the frustration. Nvidia might correct by 10% or so but it isn't going back to what we'd all like back to 2010 prices or prior for the generation pricing.
The 6900XT was never good value though compared to the 6800XT and all they've done this time is jacked the price of the 6800XT successor so now that isn't good value either.

£700 is not giving a GPU away especially when they are only using a 300mm2 die. What will a £700 upgrade over a £649 3080 buy me performance wise? 10-20% sounds like I'd be giving my money away for very little in return.

by the time thre refreshes drop you might as well skip the gen :D

Quite true. Although you generally expect 'deals' from retailers due to the age of the gen by this point and can sell on your existing hardware so it may not be a depressing move. What would be worse is if the next gen is even more expensive.. :D

I recall the 'im gonna wait for the 4070 which will be cheaper and faster' posts.

I can't see RDNA 3 selling well at near a grand for both cards. 85% market share Nvidia can't get the sheep to buy the 4080 in droves, what chance has AMD. Initially they will sell out and then they will be shelf fillers. The hay day of mining and covid relief cheques is over, it's just that the likes of Nvidia and AMD have not read the memo yet.

£650-700 is the sweet spot for many buyers looking for a good mix of performance and value yet AMD are likely giving us a 60CU replacement for the 72CU 6800XT while Nvidia are going to try flogging us a 4060 which may even end up costing as much as £800-900 so anyone buying a new card this gen for under £900 is basically not getting a worthwhile upgrade this time around unless prices see a dramatic shake up.

yea thats the amount i expect to pay for an almost top tier card not these dumbo prices they ask for now, mugs pay it and now in 2-4 years you will get a **50 card for 2k if you let them keep robbing you and we keep paying

Just let them rot on the shelves. Prices will soon tumble.

Surely there can’t be many more mugs happy to pay 1k+ for graphics cards. The whole situation just stinks.

Right but those MSRPS are also false.

The 1080ti MRSP was $699 it was selling for well over £1000 for well over a year, and i paid £750 for it on a really good Forum deal Gibbo done, at the time it was selling for about £1100 on the website i think.

MSRPS have hardly been accurate for years now.
MSRPs are good as starting points. I mean if you have an MSRP of $1599, for sure it won't sell at $1000, but even if stores and scalpers jack up the price, then a MSRP of $649, for instance, means there's a chance you'll be buying at $1000. Moreover, if 1080tis were $1000 (prescalped), now 4090 goes for what, $2000 or something? :)

Hmm, I don't remember 1080ti cards being that pricey - I picked mine up for around £700 a couple of months after release. Still using it now but hoping to pick up a new AMD card depending on price.

There are people like me that need an upgrade for years now and i don't have much option now. I waited out the whole Covid19 period thinking it will go back to normal. Now my PC is screaming at me to bite the bullet as games like COD and F1 need a bit more than poor old Vega64 can handle. I will still probably wait until February to see if things change and to get a good idea of whats best for my needs.

Can pick up a used 3080 for £500 or a 6800XT even less, sell your vega for £200 and you got a 100% performance bump for £300, new gen 4080 or 7900XT will set you back £700-1000 for a 150% increase.
