AMD’s upcoming Richland APUs will share a lot of the characteristics of the current Trinity APU range. Some commentators even refer to it as Trinity 2.0. The processors are both fabricated using the 32nm process and use the Piledriver CPU architecture. However AMD has managed to get more MHz out of these new APUs while maintaining the power-envelope. Also to sweeten the deal Richland APUs will feature updated Radeon HD 8000 series GPUs and faster DDR3-2133MHz dual-channel memory controllers.

Looking at the current top of the range Trinity APU compared to the Richland APU waiting in the wings; the Trinity A10-5800K has a base speed of 3.8GHz and CPU Turbo speed of 4.2GHz, the Richland A10-6800K will have a base speed of 4.1GHz and a CPU Turbo speed of 4.4GHz. Furthermore the 800MHz HD 7660D GPU in the A10-5800K is to be upgraded to an 844MHz HD 8670 GPU in the Richland APU. The TDPs remain the same; we might assume that AMD has improved power management and a made few architectural refinements over its predecessor.

A nice little boost to clock speed and it'll be interesting to see what the IGP level reaches. And if they've still got a bit of overclocking headroom it'd be nice. And hopefully they pull their fingers out of their arses and promote this one properly. Trinity was a good line that never got the fanfare it merited. This looks like it could certainly be one for HTPC/small form factor builders to take note of.

I don't think the problem with the current Trinity is with advertising, but more to do with it still not yet have the proper required GPU grunt gaming on 1920 res, or on people's FullHD TV with their HTPC. But at least it is on the right track.
 
Marine is dead on there, as soon as these can push out decent graphics (medium settings) at 1920x1080 I'm in. They managed to get borderlands 2 running quite well but anything more complex than that was still quite jerky.
 
It's not far away though. And if I can remember rightly, the IGP benefited from a big boost with faster ram so the improvement there might be a big help. I think 1920x1080 is the benchmark in all gaming now. It's what the overwhelming majority of PC users (including me) game at. If they've got a chip that can handle that res at playable framerates there'll be a lot of happy customers.

My comment wasn't just on the advertising but more on AMD's failure to really push Trinity ou to the masses, it's an excellent bit of hardware that's been neglected.

They failed to market Llano too, ddr3 is never going to provide the bandwidth for those resolutions,
We will have to wait for their hsa with Kaveri. by then intel will probably catch up lol,

Kaveri will be out late this year, 28nm, Steamroller, GCN GPU and probable integrated on chip vRAM.

That will be the 1080P entry gaming chip.
 
Let me put it this way...when the APUs got enough grunt for 1920 res for desktop/HTPC, and 1600 res for laptops...I can honestly see Trinity CPU and laptops flying off the shelves (so long as the pricing is right). But graphic aside, they need to step up on the grunt on CPU side of things as well, especially for laptop as I think people are more likely play light-threaded games or older games, mmos etc than the latest AAA FPS games that would use all 4 cores fully.

I'd very cautious about getting hyped up for a 2013 release on that, given as far as I'm aware AM3+ (If it does launch on that) was delayed to 2014.

You may be right, but think of this also, go to Indian Food's, PCland and Aggro's (no competitor naming) and look for Tinity Laptop's / Desktop's, or even ask one of the staff about them.

They will look at you with a blank expression thinking "what are you talking about?"

That actually is the biggest problem, they have no shelves to fly off.....

It looks like Kabini and Temash will tape out on 28nm.
As for socket I've seen hints that Kaveri will be on the fm3 socket. But has a dual memory controller for ddr3/ddr4 so can be used in fm2.

I would say late 2013 but its Amd so without setting myself up for disappointment, I wouldn't expect anything until 2014 either.
I look forward to its release, although larabee tried and failed, its still interesting to see a change from cpu compute, to cpu-gpu compute. Problem is software won't be coded for hsa so just like opencl there will be a delay until developers make use of the architecture. would love to see if game developers can make use of this architecture to provide better gaming performance.
