The big daddy of them all, the Radeon X2900XTX (codenamed Dragons Head 2 in 9.5” size XTX configuration with GDDR4 memory), is due to hit shop shelves on 30th of March 2007 but it’s still unsure if they will actually make that date. Samples were already delivered to AMD’s partners last week and many companies will likely have R600 live demos on display at CeBIT. The Radeon X2900XT (codenamed Cats Eye also measuring 9.5” but with GDDR3 memory and reduced clock speeds about 15% below XTX) will hit shop shelves on 19th of April. Dragons Head 2 is actually already well into production and product will be delivered to AIB’s in just a few days from now. After many revisions, it seems like AMD have finally got things right and are satisfied with production output – Rev90 it is.

I think its wishful thinking but it certainly ups the hype level, perhaps the For Sales forums are gonna be very busy by mid-late April ;)

Few more bits from that Article :

The original and monster Dragons Head measuring 12.4” long will still be sold but recommended just for OEM and system integrators. AMD will also release the Radeon X2900XT and X2900XL sometime in April with reduced clock speeds and only 512MB GDDR3 memory. The Radeon X2900XTX will use faster 1GB GDDR4 memory operating at over 2000MHz DDR using a 1024-bit internal memory bus and 512-bit physical memory interface.

We should get some leaked benches very soon, then the arguments, and finally the cards!

Joy! :D

But seriously, I really want to see how this card performs!!!!!!!!!!!! I won't be switiching from my GTS because it's perfect for my needs. But would be nice to see what the competition is doing you know.

It's been too long! Lol. :p

I think that the really big daddy R600 chip (the Dragon's head 2 X2900XTX) will blow the 8800 GTX out of the water.
However I am not so sure about the other ones in the lineup.
In addition, they consume vast amounts of power and will doubtles be EXXTREMELY expensive.

I WANT A SINGLE SLOT DX10 CARD NOW!!!

Hopefully this will be the last late fiasco from ati for quite a while. The last few new cores they have come out with have been hammered with delays, r520 then r600. Used to be nice to actually read reviews of new (not refresh's) nvidia and ati cards in the space of a few days, these days its more like a minimum of a few months between them.

I don't get it, have AMD definately confirmed it and done a U-turn, as they did come out and say were changing our strategy and are so delaying the R600 till quarter 2, so have they now come bak out saying we have changed our strategy again back to what we originally planned.

Hope its true as its about time the thing made an appearance, i just can't see it being 30th though, as they were delaying so they could release the whole range at once.

In fact, im sure it was after this roadmap was doing the rounds that AMD came out and said were delaying as were changing our strategy now.

I think they have been listening to you Loadsamoney and have got the jitters, so want to get a DX10 card out there, at least 1!

Witha bit of luck as they do need to get something out, its amazing how well the 8 series is selling, eveywhere is either out of stock, or have single figure numbers, Nvidia must be laughing all the way to the bank at the moment as they have just been raking it in for months with zero competiton. :)

You're right there - 0 Competition and with all the hype of Vista its been great for them. I certainly will wait for comparisons before rushing out and getting the new 'dragon's breath' or whatever it's called.......I got slated this morning by a housemate as I spend too much money on being a 'pc geek' - I said - 'It's Hardware enthusiast actually!' - Wish i had a cheaper hobby though!
