AMD RX 480 Fails PCI-E Specification

I doubt it, Gibbo said in the other thread that he has sold (and shipped) 350 of just one type (Zotac amp extreme) of 1070! 350 of ONE type of 1070.

The RX480 has sold well yes but then so has the 1070 and 1080 (and likely at higher mark ups/profit margins).

I think it is highly likely that Nvidia are the opposite of worried about the RX480 :p
Gibbo said he sold 2000 rx480 cards in 24 hours. Those GTX1070 sales are over a couple of weeks.

Pointless trying to fight them with facts and figures Cat, they will just drag you down to their level of stupidity and beat you with experience...

Anyhow who cares how many cards are sold tbh, as long as the owners are happy with their purchases and they suit their needs, job done imho.

would have thought there would have been far far more RX480 sales compared to 1070's (during the same few days after each one was released) because of the low price, and potential to run highest settings on most games at 1080/60fps give or take.

The average gamer doesn't really need a 1070, not that they're bad by any means but it's a higher end part and appeals to a narrower audience.

Well OCUK have shipped a couple of thousand of them in a very short time, problem with the Nvidia cards is they are still limited stock it seems.

AMD handled their launch well, they had stock available everywhere, Nvidia unfortunately did not and still really do not.

? He was the one that brought it up!!

I fully realise the 1070 has been out a few weeks but 350 of ONE card variety when there are ~42 1070's that Overclockers are currently listing is very impressive for a card at that price. Ergo, i don't think Nvidia are worried about the RX480 sales in the slightest like that post stated.

AMD Official Response on the Power issue

CFJYSWK.png

It pretty much shows that they set all cards a little rich on the voltage. There was a slide talking about how the finfet has less variation from the best to worst compared to planar transistors. And that they set the voltage being used to help with the worst since that variation is far smaller compared to the range of variation for planar transistors.

They more than likely set the voltage a little rich for all cards due to this.

The fix should be quite easy for them. People on Reddit have tested undervolting the card and have actually gained performance while lowering the power usage, temps and fan speed:eek:.

I don't know why they use 8 and 8 pin connectors, the card only needs +/- from the psu so why not use heavy duty 2 pin connectors(gold bullet/deans etc) like we use in RC applications for the battery connections, they can carry extremely high amperage and you could then just use 2 wires using silicone wire...I have never understood that.

God AMD fanbois are really sad. See how they treat him when he posts pictures of his case? Not everyone can have a super fancy case, and maybe, just maybe, there's something wrong with the RX480. It could be something else causing the issue, however they'll never even entertain the fact that it could be an AMD card causing the problem. Pathetic.

The quality of the case has nothing to do with it, those folks are being ridiculous. What is however a problem it seems is system hygiene.

If you look at the pics full size and zoom in you can see the motherboard in particular has began deteriorating due to what ever has gone in there.

It looks to me like it has has some liquid spilled on it at some point.

It also looks like it was allowed to get really dusty (with added hair) and given a quick whip round, possibly before adding new card or perhaps before it's first public appearance photoshoot?

There are some notes in the ATX spec in regard to safety but I can't remember details off the top of my head you also have some factors in the requirements of the traces in the PCB around the connector which are difficult to fulfil with just one place where all the current has to go through.

That pic has got to be a troll post right? Look at the state of the system. Why do people mess their mb up like that:confused:

I suspect the pc/mb is just being used here to try and extract a freebie from AMD . The mb was probably already dead before the 480 ever got in there.

I have seen mission critical MB in much worse states than than... However a good going over with a can of air duster and a paint brush would not go a miss...

If I am wrong on this then I am truly sad for the people this has affected and a little for AMD. Not much though. Both companies should realise now that they absolutely can not try to pull the wool over the eyes of this community as it is full of utter geeks and they will dissect their products.

However I still think that it is a storm in a tea and will blow over unless.... They produce drivers that Nurf the performance. Then they need all the kickings they will inevitably get.
