I just seen this youtube video of a new AMD RYZEN laptop
Says only about 2 hour battery life

2 hours doesn't really sound very good at all when an 8 core 16inch MacBook gives almost 12 hours

Is it worth waiting for these? My surface book 1 is toast so I’m in desperate need for a new laptop at the moment. I’m hearing we may not see them on the market till Q2 though

you don't need a 12 core laptop. if you do then it will likely be plugged in at a desk. you won't be encoding whilst travelling.

so battery life point is mute.

I'm sure 12 cores won't be running fast when it gets going in a laptop, it'll be a nice thigh warmer for a cold winter day.
