AMD Ryzen 5 7400f - new CPU.

That's possibly AMD finally selling off the ton of wafers that didn't quite make the quality for their more expensive CPUs that they make more money on.

It's great, but I wish it had an iGPU.

Just de-lid it, when the price finally settles to sub £80.

EDIT: Also negative offset will fix this mostly.
With the cost of the delidder and added risk of damaging the PCB...might as well just get the 7500f for peace of mind.
Unless doing it wholesale, not worth it imo

I still haven't forgiven Intel for what they did to my Ivy-Bridge CPU, given the 7500F has been as low as £80 there's not a chance I'd be touching this.

I already have AM5 delid tool, but if you don't then is certainly isn't worth it. Again however it's slightly misrepresented since it runs within spec for the chip, and a negative offset will fix the tmeps.

No/less thermal headroom to run boost clocks higher though? Even with the negative offset? Also the CO will be silicon lottery dependant and assuming these are the worst of the worst silicon doesn't fill me with much hope

This is not really acceptable. AMD's garbage paste is legendary. All of their desktop APUs run much hotter than they need to and really benefit from delidding.
Just release good products. Gimping the value option with this is a scumbag move.

I remember Tech Yes had done a review of the 8700F recently (2 months ago maybe?) and he had to de-lid it to stop it throttling.
It's truly amazing how bad a job AMD do with their budget CPUs. Has to be deliberate? Lower the products usable life-span, forcing people to upgrade sooner.

My 5700G under the TV is screaming for de-lid, but I just can't be bothered. My 2400G had a huge drop in temps. You shouldn't need to do this to any CPU in 2025.
