AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D

No coming out here though is it?
US only and only in Microcentre stores, like the 5600x3D was I think.

yields must be good like on the later 5800x3ds so not many to go around. Performance is interesting!

Looking at the gaming performance vs 9800X3D and being a former 6 core fan I'd say it's now worth going all in on the 8 core version. That and it's not available in the UK.

The performance is not due to core count, but due to clocks and reduced TDP (aka power overhead).

AMD could not release a CPU that competes with its own lineup.

Overclockers listed the 7800x3d for £315 a year ago.

CPU prices are doing crazy things - some of the older slower CPUs are still available in volume at higher prices and meanwhile you can get the 14700KF (not to keep banging that drum) for nearly £40 cheaper depending on deals (obviously doesn't help someone who already had an AM5 motherboard).

7800 X3D was available for £308 back in July last year. Got one for £320 eventually in August.

It’s all gone a bit nuts.

I have a 7900 X3D as well and find it no slower in real gaming than my 7800 X3D system. The biggest issue was core blocking not working automatically in early drivers/BIOS. Once those issues were resolved the 6 core 3D CCU showed to be more than capable for gaming.

I always felt AMD should do a cheaper 6 core 7x00 X3D. Well one out of two ain’t bad ;)

This needs to be sub £300 to be worth it IMHO. But at current nuts pricing the £320 is still good.

In June last year the 7800X3D was for sale at £315.

I was looking at building a PC then and put off until the 9800X3D came out, over the months the 7800X3D started going up in price and at 1 point it was only £20/£30 cheaper than the 9800X3D

Its a full 100 quid cheaper than the 7800X3D atm, so both are about £50 per core. 7900X3D is 600 quid so 50 quid a core again (with a very slight discount for bulk purchase against the lower corecounts!) :)

Mind you, most new games expect an 8 core, don't they? I doubt I'd be scrimping for a £100 saving even if you could always upgrade later to a 9x00x3d on Socket 5, but for someone looking for a low cost build its a decent option I suppose. 7600X is another £100 cheaper and still leaves the same upgrade headroom, or 7800X is about the same price, 2 more cores but no X3D. Plenty of choices.

I would not spend £320 on a 6 core, that just seems crazy to me.

Six cores is more than enough for the vast majority of games but I’m sure you would find fringe cases. Once you get to actual real settings at 1440p or 4K the GPUs become a bottleneck. It’s the productivity where the fewer cores become problematic.

The reason the 7600 X3D is slower in some games is down to the lower TDP and core clocks. Going from a 5800 X3D to a 7900 X3D saw some very noticeable gaming performance improvements despite having two less cores. Also compared to my son’s 7800 X3D pure gaming system, my 7900 X3D is just as performant at “real” gaming settings.

So if you are pure gaming and on a budget, that £100 spent on a GPU* gets a more noticeable performance increase than two extra CPU cores.

*£100 does not get you up a tier in Nvidia but is a decent difference from a 9070 to a 9070 XT for example.

I can see why people want these chips but upgraded to a cheap 7700 I got from china yesterday and with my 9070xt warzone average fps is 285 @ 1440 on my preferred settings with native fsr4 prefer how it looks

certain I could scrape some more out but the cost to frames gained does not seem worth it yet

need to check some more games tbh
