AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

The scalpers are out. They live on hype. I have seen a number being sold on ebay for £700.
It's disappointing that businesses still haven't really tackled the scalpers.
It only works because people are very impatient and they want things right now, not wait at all, so they are happy to pay more. If people had bit more patience, scalpers of consumer's products wouldn't exist.

Parts rolling in next few days - hopefully sooner in some cases. But the 9800x3D has arrived already an hour ago. Motherboard, fans and cooler arrives in the next couple of hours. Now just need to decide if I want to swap coolers with the 7950x - currently a U12A (which can certainly handle the 9800x3D by some accounts) with the D15 G2 I've got coming for the 9800x3D (which can handle the 7950X full power load by some accounts).

Oh very much so. That's the problem with hype. People get all worked up and MUST BUY NOW!!!

I must confess that I feel the urge to buy one, but I point blank refuse to get carried away by all the hype. I will give in next year, but for the moment I will hide my wallet and chew the corner of my desk.

My 9800x3d arrived today. Installed it earlier and I'm so far I'm really impressed. Coming from a 5950x and paired with a 3090 I'm getting a substantially better frame rate in Satisfactory (difficult to give exact numbers as it swings wildly depending where you are in the world). Didnt expect that given I play at 4k. Cant wait to replace the 3090 next year with a 50 series card.

Good to know. Satisfactory is one of the games I've been waiting to 'play properly' on a new system. Don't get my wrong I've played my fair share on my old 2500k / RX480 but I've had to turn it down so much I might as well have had my eyes closed

Assuming my overdue boot drive turns up, I hope to build my system tomorrow after weeks of watching the parts sit on my kitchen table. Flashed my b650 motherboard tonight - which I alwaysthought sounded very scary but was surprisingly straight forward ... assuming it worked

If im honest I know that the 4070 TI Super I picked up probably isnt fancy enough to get the best out of the CPU, but I happened to be speccing out my new system the same week the 9800x3d launched and it was like 35 quid more than the previous chip I was looking at - I upgrade my pc about every 6 years and I thought it might be nice to have the new shiny pc part for the first time ever. Plus it will absolutely dominate football manager to take revenge for what it used to put my cheap laptops through when I was a kid

(also has the price gone up since launch day or am I missing something? I don't think I would have been willing to stretch to £499 - seems a big price jump)

Exchange rate unfortunately. Dollar has got stronger since the orange one got voted in.

After installing my 9800x3D which I got today. And used it for like maybe one hour I am thinking of selling it.

I think the cooler needs be reseated as my temps are hotter than expected. But CB23 seems to indicate it is working as intended as it returned a score of 23k something.

It runs at least minimum 10c -12c hotter than my 7800x3D. I might ask one of the AMD gods for help. While it is still performing within the temp limits I was under impression it was suppose to run on par or less than the 7800x3D.

I updated to the latest HWinfo so I can see what it is doing in CB runs. I have applied the. PBO -30 offset. I am wondering if it has anything to do with +200 clock override?

I don’t know what temps and what it is doing in game as MSI afterburner can’t read it.

I got to admit I struggled to get the cooler down on the mounting system for a good 10-15 minutes. But it never took me this long when the 7800x3D was in it.

But then mounting the cooler to the mounting struts is a bit fiddly but was extra annoying when I decided to swap to the 9800x3d.

Gonna try reseating and repasting on Sunday when I got time and reach out to @LtMatt and Co.

When I using the 7800x3d I was having a blast and blown away by the temps and power usage but so far the 9800x3d is like a party in my mouth and everyone is throwing up.

Obviously this is down to user error and not understanding the 9800x3D and I realise I maybe the only person who feels this way but I really need help as I know nothing about the AMd platform especially X3D chips.

Remove the +200 clock over ride. For a start. It will run a little bit hotter.

Yes they do run hotter. In the range 40-90 degrees. In real life, though (rather than stress tests), it should be 40-65 degrees.

As I understand it, this is down to the construction of the package and not to your cooler. The layered cache/CPU is a bit of a heat trap and no matter how good your cooler is, you won't improve on those temperatures.

Finally making some progress with the memory OC

@Joxeon what memory sticks are you using?
Viper extreme 5 8200, was a bit of a faf to get them running as they didn’t have an expo profile and the preset profiles on the board wouldn’t even boot, they seem decent enough though. Got then running error free with decent timings at 6400 and 8000 now and I can boot in at 6600 1-1 and 2-1 at 8200 and 8400 but needs more work before I’ll know if I can eliminate errors.

Got some trident Z neo expo coming so will see how they compare.
