Viper extreme 5 8200, was a bit of a faf to get them running as they didn’t have an expo profile and the preset profiles on the board wouldn’t even boot, they seem decent enough though. Got then running error free with decent timings at 6400 and 8000 now and I can boot in at 6600 1-1 and 2-1 at 8200 and 8400 but needs more work before I’ll know if I can eliminate errors.

Got some trident Z neo expo coming so will see how they compare.
I habe a set of the gskills 7800mhz stuff that I bought for my intel setup woulld that work jsut like the 8000 kit?

@LtMatt of course continues to be a bad influence, was not intending to spend so much time with this 9800x3D build on RAM tuning

So I noticed the QVL list for my board (MSI x870E) has a lot of higher frequency kits. 7600+

Which got me thinking, if they've tested a bunch of performance sticks, and hynix can be OC'd quite easily, it's probably my tuning skills and very early understanding of AM5/DDR5 which makes me be a bit more conservative.

6400 with this 64G kit might be on the cards, it always booted but was never stable with the 6200 timings.

Slackened things a little and bumped vSOC/VDD up to see if it would pass a few cursory tests. Got my intake fan above the ram sticks doing the business here so that probably helped.

TM5 just did 4 cycles roughly 20 mins, so that's a good start. The IMC already seems solid enough given this is 64G/dual rank. I don't see folks say this but technically is it actually quad rank because DDR5 has two banks per side vs DDR4 one bank per side?

The throughput here is a little bit more than I was expecting

Am I correct that interleaving is pretty much enforced on DDR5?

If so, does that mean throughput will scale better on higher capacity kits if AMD improve the IMC on Zen6?

Try this.

If that works, (check stability) you can try lowering WRWRDD to 4.

It's been a while since i used a dual rank kit, but in theory those should work with an A Die dual rank kit.

I went straight to the turn around/SCL timings since they are dual rank specific. Booted but a few windows systems are throwing errors and the gfx driver (AMD) is timing out.

I'll revert and start with primaries

@LtMatt
Absolutely marginal or non existent gains on reducing primaries.

I suppose that makes sense right? tREFI is maxed, and tRFC won't go lower so 90% of improvement is likely
on these two knobs after raw frequency.

Probably wont bother now with dual rank specific timings, I don't think these knobs go to 11.

Maybe I’m off a bit with the SCL suggestions been a while since I see DR, but try the others.

Might want to use something else other than Aida as the single CCD parts are bandwidth limited and you are already pretty much bouncing off that limit.

My 9800x3d arrived today. Installed it earlier and I'm so far I'm really impressed. Coming from a 5950x and paired with a 3090 I'm getting a substantially better frame rate in Satisfactory (difficult to give exact numbers as it swings wildly depending where you are in the world). Didnt expect that given I play at 4k. Cant wait to replace the 3090 next year with a 50 series card.
Oh why'd you have to go and say a thing like that

I'm still trying to convince myself that my 5950x doesn't need upgrading
