AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Ah FFS.

I couldn't resist in upgrading my 13600k. I bought the 9800x3d. Realistically how much more performance will I get...? Im using a 2540x1440 monitor (360hz) with 7900xtx.

Appears I have a faulty 9800X3D which I'm thoroughly disappointed with.

Only built my system less than a week ago.

Replaced motherboard, RAM, tested without NVMe SSDs, removed GPU, etc. I have a new PSU coming later today to test, but I highly doubt it's the culprit.

No issues besides coming back into my office and the PC being completely off, and upon restart it won't post. No visible damage that I can tell: https://imgur.com/a/6fCGxPw

I certainly didn't overclock or change any voltages.

Now I face having to pay a scalper 600 on eBay for a replacement as I certainly won't get a replacement through normal methods anytime soon.

Buying one off eBay when you've had a problem in the first place isn't the best idea...

Just wait for the replacement. The retailer will need to prioritise yours.

You're right. I honestly despise the concept of buying from a scalper but I'd written my post in the midst of being quite annoyed and looking to throw the kitchen sink at trying to find a solution.

I think I'll go with a 7600X as an interim solution until I receive a replacement 9800X3D.

I swapped my RAM the night before from 2x 32GB Corsair Vengeance 6000Mhz CL40 sticks to 2x 32GB Corsair Vengeance 6000Mhz CL30 sticks. I enabled EXPO and I do note the stock voltage increases from 1.35V to 1.40V on the lower CL sticks. It worked well for a few hours (no noted issues with any stability) until it decided to die.

Makes sense! Hopefully you'll get it soon.. some retailers expect to get them in the next few weeks so shouldn't take too long. Annoying though!!

You can get a 7500F pretty darn cheap and even a 8400F can do the business, if you want something that costs less. Alternatively a 8500G/8600G would be handy for an HTPC/casual gaming PC, if you could repurpose it after.

How do I get msi afterburner to give me info on the 9800x3d I just have the temp of it which according to it is 8-16c lulz. But I can’t get the other info to show
You can do it by changing the sensors in RTSS to use Hwinfo64 as a data source (have to tick the shared memory support in hwinfo settings) which is a bit of a faff or wait until RTSS/Afterburner is updated and able to read them.

redid my loop to add in my 9800x3d.. using an AC Core1 block and QDC.. quick light overclock PBO enabled, +200, -40 scaler at x10. Haven't started playing with memory timings.. not sure how much there is to play with, with a 64gb kit

Let the CPU run in before i start delidding it.

I got some IMC lottery luck here I think, here's 6200 stable on my trident z5 m-die kit and the 6400 tune I'm working on at the moment. I did try CL28 (needed 1.52v SOC), managed to get an 8 hour karhu run but TM5/OCCT cpu+mem picked up some errors. May or may not come back to that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Almost all comparison reviews use a 4090 and in raster performance a 7900XTX has about 91% of the performance. But specific games can favour one over the other.

Using a 4090 chart at 1440p ultra the 13600k has about 91% of the performance of a 9800X3D.

It's probably still the same % difference with a 7900XTX swapped in.

Had no problems with my CPU on stress tests using CB23 and playing COD for few hours

But the new Fortnite is causing my system to crash

Playing games the CPU temp is 73 and CB23 stress test after 15 mins is 88 so doesn't appear to be a temp issue

Decent, the PBO light OC is pretty good. Although crashes my comp playing Warzone. Ran CB24 for a full run with zero issues.

BO6 or Warzone? I get maybe 10 minutes into a game on BR and it crashes, Starfield and CB24 are no isssues. Haven't tested further but now will. Disabled OC and played Warzone for 45 mins no issues.
