AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Ram - G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 64gb
Mobo - ASUS B650E-F

I purchased and fitter the 9800x3d over Christmas but couldn't get it to boot. Not even to the BIOS. The BIOS had been updated to 3057 in advance.

I still had my old CPU which I put back in & it worked straight away. So I tried again & still with the same issue.

The DRAM light went amber each time & nothing changed after a good 5-10 mins.

I have since RMA'd the CPU but it was all a massive faff having to re thermal paste, refit the CPU cooler & GPU etc.

It may be a blessing in disguise as I'm now looking at the 9900x3d or the 9950x3d but my concern is that I'll run into the same problem.

Has anyone else had issues with this. Especially looking for feedback on the BIOS version 3057 & the RAM type

Any advice appreciated please
They released a newer bios a couple of weeks later, so maybe others had problems too, but sounds like a ram problem if the ram light was on. Was it seated properly?

RAM was working prior & is working again now with my old CPU back in so it's not a problem with how it was seated.

I also did a BIOS reset prior to installing the new CPU

I was about to enable expo but one of the changes was to set x to 2000Mhz (infinity fabric?) so I held off on doing so. It should be 3000hz for 6000MT/s, right?

This message is stopping me from updating the bios. Where is fTPM found in the bios? Anyone else get this?

I pressed f4 to search for fTPM and found it. I turned fTPM off and updated the bios - took about 5min and windows had to restart after I set expo and did fan setup. I don't use bit locker either it just sounds like it makes flashing the bios more risky with it enabled.

I'd hold off from buying now, mine was a pre-order from November.

I once said that I didn't care about the price, but £540 is really pushing it. It may have the effect of delaying my purchase for a year or so. People are pushing the price up to the point where all the value has just gone completely out the window.

Even November price I would have held off buying. I only ordered as sold my 5800X3D close to what I bought for.

I find it constantly annoying that this now seems to be the norm in the PC world. Shortages, scalping, delays, it's just rubbish and takes the fun out of the PC building hobby.
its the same with every new product released.

There is never enough stock vs demand to make scalping not worth it

Wait until the end of the month when the 50 series gpus come out, they will be on ebay within minutes at stupid prices

I had the same view ref price and went for a 7800x3d instead for a near 200 saving

It should be at 3GHz for 6GT/s. The 9800X3D IMC can handle up to 3.2GHz semi-officially and 3GHz very officially.

If it's at 2GHz memory fabric, the memory training or a board error has decided to put it there. I'd force MEMCLK = UCLK FCLK for a 1:1 ratio, it should definitely be stable (mine is at 3.1GHz, for example.)

I'm pretty sure that one of the changes of expo was to force MEMCLK=UCLK. I'll have to get a screenshot of it. I had my DDR4 dark pro 8-pack edition memory @ 3800MT/s up from 3600 but long term it proved unstable. I wouldn't mind just trying if I can lower to cl 26 or 28 from cl 30 but I don't have the will to optimise each setting, and I don't have a guide like last time from techpowerup!
