AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Wonder if someone can shed some information on this.

My 9800X3D shows in Windows as a 8 core 8 thread processor.

In the bios I have the X3D gaming mode enabled, I disabled this and its gone back to 8 core 16 threads in Windows.

Is it worth having the X3D Gaming mode enabled if its reducing the threads to 8?
Some games may show gains, but res here was low.

I thought the X3D gaming mode was for the 16 core X3D parts to disable the none X3D cores?
1 CCD part, switch off SMT.
2 CCD part ie 12C/16C, switch off CCD, switch off SMT.

Hi, without going through this whole thread that is very long, MSI Afterburner OSD is not showing the temps of the CPU, anyone else having this?

Was previously only for Intel, but as AMD CPU's are now so popular, they're making the first Apex board for AMD.

Release is March I believe, should be good!
Can you let me know your thoughts on the hero please Dave when you get it and tested it thankyou

Which there is none as it's all X3D cores no?

Basically that mode is for the the 12 and 16 core versions of the X3D as not all the 12 and 16 cores have X3D

Isn't that what I said :P

There are 12/16 core X3D chips in the 7000 series, @ED209 didn't say which motherboard he was on, as the older X670 era boards also have that option.

How many more iteration of chips are left on AM5?

In other words will AM6 be around in the next 2 years?

Would it be a bad time to buy in to AM5 from AM4?
AMD stated they plan to support the AM5 platform until at least 2027/2028. Whether that means they do it in parallel with the next platform ( AM6 ) or not remains to be seen.

So the 10..x3d will be on the same socket?
No idea ; they could do what they did with the AM4 platform and bring out further 9XXX chips ... or perhaps the next gen will be on AM5 too. They didn't specify what they meant by extending support for a few more years at least.

A 2 second google shows rumors reported on multiple sites saying that AMD are planning Zen6 to launch on AM5 in around late 2026 https://www.techpowerup.com/328673/...ket-am5-for-desktops-2026-27-product-launches

Upgrading to AM5 now should be safe for a few years of upgrades including Zen6.

In that article it noted..

In the meantime, Intel is expected to ramp "Arrow Lake-S" on Socket LGA1851, and debut the "Panther Lake" microarchitecture on LGA1851 in 2025-26.

Other articles suggest that ArL S is not happening and PL is not coming to the desktop.

Point being, it is hard to know what will happen for sure. But, I would prefer to edge my bets on longevity for AMD than team blue.

I have no idea about Intel (zero interest in their products), you asked about AMD and multiple sites released the same information (sure, they are still rumours) about them also releasing Zen6 on AM5 in late 2026.

I am comfortable upgrading to a 9800x3D and enjoying it for the next 2 years and if I get the chance to pop in a Zen6 then woohoo, all good!

Great build you have there. Are you happy enough with the board and memory you have listed in your sig..?

Still makes more sense to buy into AM5 and not Intel if you need a new system. AMD will likely support AM5 until 2028. Tbh if it's a gaming build, if you get a 9800X3D that chip would last years and years.

Has anyone tried this AGESA to ComboAM5 PI 1.2.0.3a Patch A on 9800X3D? Any improvement of the ram latency with this patch?
I would wait for a stable release. There may be some issues right now.
