AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Will the new processors slot into existing AM5 motherboards? I’ve never had AMD but I see A620, B650, B650E, X670, X870 and X870E and have absolutely no idea what any of that means, I know I want to upgrade from my aging 6700k but no clue what I need to buy, I want to spend around £4K when the new GPUs drop and get the best available CPU at that time.
Make yourself a thread in the new to PC gaming & upgrade advice forum and we can do a new spec and explain what you need to know for the board choice.

Got excited when I saw some leaks stating that 9800x3d achieves 10-28% gains in 1% lows, then realised that's against a 9700x, not a 7800x3d...can't imagine the margins are much different between a 7800x3d and 9700x.

the leaked review yesterday showed that it's possible to get 20% gains over a 7800x3d. this is possible as AMD now allow overclocking on the 9800x3d, i won't be going down that road personally but nice to know it's an option.

just purchased a 7800X3D no less than a couple months ago but now eyeing the 9800X3D.. will be interesting what the benchmarks between the two are, and any real world different when/if delidded.

for gaming ? sig says 3080fe you aint gonna notice any difference
priority would be to update the GPU first (5090 maybe), so depending on benchmarks, pricing etc, i may purchase both at the same time... but feel the 7800X3D is enough for what i need it for, for the moment

I suppose if you sold for £300 and you redeemed the games it wouldn't be too bad of an upgrade TBH.
