The spec of a 9800x3D is to boost to 5.2ghz so iIf it's only boosting to 4.94ghz then you have a problem that you need to figure out and its likely motherboard or cooling related.Out of the box mine boosts to 4.94GHz. After enabling PBO +200 it hits 5.2GHz.
This was the same story with my 5800x3d. Only using -15 co did it hit it's max clocks.
Ok I just enabled pbo +200mhz and -20.
All core boost under 100% load is 5.2GHz.
How are people going higher than this?
I've had exceptionally bad luck with the 9800X3D.
Two have now died on me after approximately one week's usage. (Identical configuration ran the 7600X fine for 6-7 weeks while awaiting the RMA replacement)
Whether it's a fault with ASRock motherboards specific to the 9800X3D or very bad quality control at AMD remains to be seen.
I see people literally dissecting their processors to inch out a percentage point more performance without a hiccup and here I am with two dead processors after being mortified at even enabling EXPO.![]()
We are not asking you to say anything, we are telling you that you have a problem that you can of course either choose to troubleshoot or leave as is.Well what can I say.
Mine is topping out at 5.2GHz with these settings (image from igors lab)

So far... So good, no reboot
Is this setting likely to hinder performance somewhat I assume?
I'm currently running a stress test on cpu-z and it's boosting all cores to 4.9ghz with a max temp of 79 degrees.
Google and ye shall find.Anyway I've ran abut 20 mins of cinbench24 thus far at it seems stable.
Maybe I am temps or something else constrained as it only boosts to 5.2GHz.
Does it make any difference if I am watching the speed in windows task manager as opposed to hwinfo etc...?
Maybe you should be asking yourself why you would want to use the task manager when you have HWinfo which a tool specifically designed to provide reliable system monitoring with history?Does it make any difference if I am watching the speed in windows task manager as opposed to hwinfo etc...?
Change your cooler with better one, like Artic Freezer Liquid 360/420. 9800X3D have max temp limit to 85C ,after 85C speed go down to reduse themperature.Example my 9800X3D on 5.5Ghz @ 1.260V is around 78-82C in cinebench with Artic Freezer Liquid 360 and MX-4 paste.Your one hit 91C stock with negative PBO which mean is undervolted, this is not normal. Also on 91C your PC shoud restart to protect the cpu. Did U instal the latest bios for this cpu on the motherboard?Ok... I installed hwinfo.
It looks like it is thermal throttling.
It is hitting the 90c mark.
CPU CCD1 (Tdie) 86c - 91c
Clocks are still at 5.2GHz
Still on my 4th run of cinebench24 and its stable.
Which ASRock board do you have ? I know around the launch some sockets were slightly warped so certain pins didn't make contact and it ended up with some 9800X3D's having issues.
