AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Hey all,

Got my Asrock Nova 870E 9800X3D system built, haven't reinstalled windows yet but looks like I need to given how much has changed and seemingly the inability to uninstall asus armoury crate, which I was only using so I could address the RGB headers. Likely to do this when I change GPU in a few weeks but it seems to run games fine so not a massive issue.

Anyhow a few questions.

1. Memory, I have updated the bios to v3.20 given the issues that have occurred with Asrock boards and these chips lately, I am running XMP rather than EXPO for the time being as it seems most of the issues have occurred when using EXPO, I assume I will only encounter a minimal penalty in doing so ? I will change to EXPO once we know whats what in the next few weeks.

2. I have had to revert to using a corsair h100 280 as the bracket from liquid freezer 2 does not fit over the capacitors on this board, is there any alternative bracket I can use to fix this.

Great chip, I have only tested on stalker 2 but runs much cooler than my 5900X and a lovely fluid framerate using a 7900GRE, soon to be a 9700XT.
I thought Asus offered a removal "tool" for armory crate.

Can you please summarize for people who don't want to watch yet another mickey mouse youtube channel and 20 minute video that appears to already be 3 months old? Where does the 9800x3d 'struggle'?

Yeah does my head in these days - everyone makes a 20 minute video to explain something that could be written in a sentence. Have these kids got nothing to do all day?

Turns out I was an idiot with the cooler and had forgotten the spacers, even though I had just taken them off the other board. Note to myself, Don't build PC's whilst having a few glasses of wine :-)

That's the best time to build a PC, You can also play "dodge the sparks maker" with a screw driver when aiming at the screw heads and narrowly missing a capacitor :D

Mine is idling around 45° ish and when i played RDR2 yesterday for about 6 hours it sat at about 58° stable, in cinebench it gets to around 85° I'm cooling with a 360mm radiator & alphacol apex 1 cpu block.

Seems similar to mine. 40 ish idle 59 / 60 gaming. Don't really play cinebench :)
