AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

having done a CPU swap myself, I can say its buggered my windows license and I now show as you need to register windows.

while I only game so its minimal annoyance I need to reinstall windows now and go through the setup, I have tried to rectify but nothing has worked so far.
You don't need to reinstall windows you just need to reactivate it following the detected hardware change.

I feel like a plonker right now.

I looked at it again and noticed the blue writing saying "i changed hardware" I didnt realise it was a clickable link.

What a ********.

Thank you

Thinking of getting the 9800 my first amd cpu.
recommendations for a mobo? I like the look of the TUF board.

I went with the x870e Tomahawk WiFi but you could save a little with the x870 Tomahawk.

The good thing with MSI is they are the most on the ball of all the manufacturers when it comes to pushing out the latest bios which is why I went with them.

All done now. I had to reactivate windows, install some drivers and I lost a HDD due to the lack of SATA connectors on the board. Not a problem as I also bought a 2TB M2 so transferred the data to there and removed my old 512GB SSD.

I expect my older stuff might end up on MM or I might build another PC, as I have enough parts to do so. The only thing I don't have is a working GPU, I managed to kill my old 2080TI when I swapped it for the 7900 XTX. It works with drivers installed, then black screens when they are. Can't see any damage to the PCB.

Been mulling over it for awhile and I think I'm going for the 9800X3D from my 7800X3D. The only games I play currently are KCD2 and DayZ with a capped frame rate of 165HZ on my monitor. I don't do any productive cpu intensive stuff on this system and only game. With my mins being higher and higher average frame rates, the 9800X3D sold it for me. Plus I can overclock AND sell my 7800X3D.

Is game mode still needed or even beneficial on this CPU? I know you need this on the dual CCD chips but does it have any benefit on the 9800x3d?

Also what power plan is recommended?

Pretty sure game mode for the 9800x3d is a no. It's for the chips like the 9900x3d and 9950x3d.

I use the windows balanced power plan.
