Confused between AMD Ryzen 7700x or AMD Ryzen 7900x. Mostly I game and code. I am tempted for the 7900x due to 12 core over 8 core 7700x. Will 7900x be a better option?

Upgrading from Intel i9 10th Gen

Honestly at this point I would get the 7700x. I have a 5900x and love it but it's under utilized and I have at times 3 ides (visual studio, code, android studio + others at times) plus SQL server and postgres, also with many tabs in 3 browsers and it never breaks a sweat. 7700x will cost less and when the 3d chips or zen 5 arrive will probably cost you less to sell and upgrade.

Do you actually spend a lot of time waiting for the code to compile and if you do, does the compiler support multiple cores? Do you do anything else, like working with game engines, or rendering?

For games, there's pretty much no point right now, the 7700X is more than enough, so it is weighing up if your work usage will benefit, that's it.

I'd consider the 13600K too, by the way, it's very strong (often faster than the 7700X) in both games and productivity.

Sounds good. Will wait for 3D v-cache

Current Specs

32GB RAM
EVGA RTX 3080ti
Corsair h850i Platinum PSU

Not too concerned with Graphics card because it will serve 2-3 years at ease
That rig is fine. Hold tight for now. your GPU is strong so yeah, ignore that upgrade itch, you'll spend a ton for a small improvement.

I guess you are right. Checked the prices. With new RAM 32 GB DDR5, Asus budget TUF x670e MB and ryzen summing approx 1050 quids. I will stick to my current rig, no point in spending 1K over a small upgrade.
