I've an old pc with a 3000+ processor in it. I'd like to update the processor but can't seem to find any new x2 939 skt processors. Is fleabay the only source nowadays?

Once you have 250 posts, you gain access to Members Market. There are always some on there, I sold a 3800X2 for £25incl and there have been others at that price level too :) On the bay they will be a lot more :(

If you're interested send me a mail, I have a AMD Athlon 3700 64 for £15incl :)

I'm after a dual core so would have been interested in the 3800x2, but I'll pass on the 3700 thanks.

Looks like I need to start posting more to gain access to the Members Market...

Any I think you need to be a member for a minimum of 3 months!

The opteron 165 , 70, 75, 80 , 85 are supported by most mainboards as they are just renamed X2 4400's and X2 4800's at different clock speeds.

These generally sell for less than the above X2 series though people are getting wiser. The X2 4400 = Opteron 175 and the X2 4800 = Opteron 180

Most will OC to 2.5Ghz, some will OC to 2.8 or above

m8 theres no point. You could easily sell the s939 stuff and get a cheap (very cheap) C2D that would be much quicker.

Going Athlon X2 you'd see nil performance gain.

My s939 stuff is worth next to nothing, yet for £30ish a year ago I changed from a 3200+ to a x2 3800+, dual core and clocked much better, the performance gain was definitely noticable and saved me having to reinstall and buy new kit.

I was in a similar position to yourself mate. Was thinking about upgrading but in the end I saw a X2 4400+ on MM for £30. I picked that up, and replaced my X2 3800+ which isn't really a huge upgrade tbh, but the X2 3800 I had running at default 2.0Ghz and this X2 4400+ I have running at 2.5Ghz so its something :p

It was a free upgrade though because I got my money back on my X2 3800+ so I can't really complain :)
