anyone know of any good amd/nvidia mobos? i really wanna run a SLI setup but dont want an intel cpu.

this is going to be tough from my reserch so maybe recommend a good cpu to chuck in there. are the 6 core amds any quicker than the 4 cores on ANY games at the mo?

as in, do any games use more than a quad? i wonder how long it will be.... in the next 2 years i bet.

,mmmmmm so anyone know if the new socket sandybridge will support a 6 core later on?

Hi there,

If you want SLI and modern motherboard then you will need to go Intel.

As for whether hex cores are of any benefit in games - this article seems to show that six cores really are not properly utilised by modern games (and tbh in most cases neither are quad cores). Future games should get better at using more cores, but it will be many years before games need a hex core to run properly.

Also, please bear in mind that the current Intel Sandy Bridge quad core CPUs run rings around the Phenom II X6 CPUs in most tasks (even heavily multithreaded) because their architecture is so much more powerful. Have a look at this comparison between a sandy bridge and Phenom II X6 that are priced about the same.

According to this the next generation "Ivy Bridge" CPUs will work with existing s1155 P67 and H67 boards with a BIOS updated. It is very likely that some of these will be hex cores.

well judging by cmndr's post, i may actually want an intel.... if they are thinking of releasing a new CPU that will work with the current socket, im all in. not confident theyll stick to that plan though lol

thanks for the info though guys, i can see the i5 really does smash the 955.... which it should do at an extra £130 with an SLI mobo.

seems like it might be worth it for future proofing, cant believe im saying that about an intel lol
