AMD socket 754 and 939 ?

Hi,

I was looking to buy a new 64 bit cpu and I noticed that AMD Athlon processors come in these two socket configurations.
What is the advantage of one over the other? Is one newer than the other ? Does one give better preformance than the other?

Socket 939 is newer and offers dual channel memory support

Clock for clock 939 is faster but the 754 CPUs are clocked higher negating the difference

Socket M2 is just around the corner though and it'll replace both so I'd be tempted to wait for that
