about bloody time, what were you people doing shipping them over by donkey ?

Hi there

Nothing to do with us, AMD have had none to little stock in the channel for weeks/months.

This is just AMD clearance stock as these chips have not been in production for some time.

Also if were using Donkeys what are our competitors using as this CPU seems generally unavailable elsewhere?

Hi there

Well with Vista looming these will certainly add a good performance boost for those who don't wish to change their entire major PC components and just want to drop a faster CPU in.

How they overclock I am unsure, will have to wait for feedback from you guys but they are all the same batch. :)

A mate of mine told me to avoid the 4600 cpus. Either 4400 or 4800 are better he said.

Hi there

Thats because those processors have 1MB cache which helps boost performance. However finding those is near impossible. Basically the 4600 is hardly no quicker than the 4400, though at this price OcUK is selling at is cheaper than a 4400 anyway. :)

Any idea of how quickly these are selling at? Want to wait till Thursday if I can, so that I'm home on Friday to sign for it. :)

Hi there

Well demand is unreal, sold 200pcs over the weekend and a further 100 today. Can only get another 200pcs with us for tomorrow and at the moment cannot source any more. Buy now to definetely secure one as these things can be very hard to find.

On a positive side we just sourced a load of Athlon 4000's OEM at a great price, see our website for these.

Plus I have found some X2 4800 retail chips, which are not so cheap but still a bargain!!

lol, gibbo you must be able to source them, right now i can buy 200pcs of any 939 CPU. the only reason i dont is im not a trader and simply dont have that kind of capital, but they are available ;) go kick your suppliers arse.

p.s. glad to here they are selling well at least.

Hi there

Just found another 500 and took them. Seems nowhere in Europe has any now, shall start looking in the far east next to see if I can grab more. Damn these are popular and its gotta be to do with the release of Vista in the pipeline so everybody is going dual core to enhance Vista performance. :)

oh if your only looking in europe i can understand why your coming up empty lol, USA markets have ample supply of 939 chips. ;)

Hi there

The US prices are substancially higher than I am paying for the ones in the EU. Our website price is cheaper than practically every US etailor selling these chips and my buy price is a different story. The deals that AMD are giving to their European Distributors and customers are not the same deals as the USA are getting.

Hence why in the US you can get an FX60 for peanuts as its a deal done over there, however from speaking to AMD this morning a price request has been done and hopefully AMD will give us a deal that allows us to sell the FX60 for £200-£250+VAT.

thats very strange of them gibbo, i dont understand how the US distributors could be substantially more expensive than EU suppliers given the sliding dollar and the fact that the Retail price for AMD 939 CPU`s in the USA is ridiculously cheap, Quick example of US retail X2 price converted using today's exchange rate from $ to £

these are taken from the Largest and most well known US E-tailer, with five and a half million registered customers and more than 1200 employees globally they are probably the largest PC parts E-tailer in existence.

X2 4400 OEM £102.66
X2 4600 £119.94
X2 4800 £149.10

Opteron 165 £79.44
Opteron 170 £97.50
Opteron 175 OEM £92.86

now true in the USA they dont pay VAT but these prices are US RETAIL prices, buying in bulk from a US distributor or direct from AMD America gets you these for cheaper still, i.e. 3 to 5 hundred pcs, factoring in transport and VAT costs and youd still be able to sell these with a small profit and give a little customer satisfaction too as youd be the only guys in England with stock apart from 1 large e-tailer here in Coventry, but there service is abysmal :D and they are selling opteron 170`s for £263!.

failing this just get your ass over there on a plane, buy a suitcase full and tell customs its full of socks :p

Your referring to Newegg, Tiger and Zipzoomfly I would image, as Newegg is the largest US Etailor by a vast amount.

Let me just say they operate on far lower margins than OcUK do. Hence my buy price is a lot cheaper than I could buy from the US at and thats before shipping charges.

Afterall Newegg is not a competitor of OcUK, were not competing with the US, were competing with the UK. If we really wanted to we could undercut those Newegg prices vastly but we have no need to due to the huge demand for the products.

Newegg sell the X2 4600 Socket 939 for $232.49 I see your using a dollar rate of roughly 1.95 but you have to remember a bank will always be quite a bit lower than the exchange rate on www.xe.com and therefor its more realistic to expect a rate of 1.89-1.91 from the bank.

In wich case makes the price for the CPU from Newegg around £122 + Taxes. Also Newegg will be operating on a margin in the area of 4-8% depending on how good buy-in price they got.

Fact is my buy price on these is incredible and our margin is far higher than newegg, but our sell price is market value and the demand is high, so its pointless us say selling them for £99 which we could do but that will never happen. :)

So I have no need to get on a plane, I can just sit behind my desk and get them a lot cheaper from using the contacts I have. ;)

Those are some very good points.

But

You forgot to say "Hi there".

Anyways, any idea how long stock will last? As a rough estimate? Are we talking days, or weeks? Would you be getting more in?

Hi there :D

Its as long as a piece of string really, demand is very high and sourcing product at the price were paying is not so easy. For the moment I would say 1-2 weeks.
As I could hold my pricing and sell a steady 200ish pc's per week. Or I could put them on This Week Only at a small reduction and no doubt smash 500pcs out over a weekend. :D

HI there

We got the 3800, 4600 and 4800 X2 Socket 939 chips in stock now and have shipped all orders with plenty left over. :)

We also have the 4000 San Diego Socket 939 1MB cache chips in stock too, these are fantastic overclockers and the price us unreal. :D

Arriving Monday we have the OEM X2 4200 Socket 939 chips too which are a great deal.

A few days work and once again we have a full range of Socket 939 chips in stock at stunning low prices. :)

Hi there

I asked AMD regarding the FX60's going cheap in the US and it was a deal done for that market.

AMD cannot do the same over here as AMD have no stock for the UK. :(
