Hi all,

I have a friend who's been out of the loop for a long time, he's after a spec that'll be good enough for music processing, film viewing, some graphics and general web ... he's not a gamer at any time so a high spec intel would be a waste to him so I thought AMD.

All he needs are CPU, Mobo and Ram ... possibly a PSU too as his old one is 2+ years old antec 500 I think.

Any and all suggestions/advice will be appreciated and passed on.

all black-editions come with an unlocked multiplier, so overclocking is a piece of p***!!!

if you mean unlock, as in get extra cores? then its already a quad core, turning it into a hex core isn't possible.

Nice one, thats what I like to hear.

I did mean that and I didn't know it was already a quad core :o, apologies for my mistake .. see, I told ya, I know nowt about AMD's :D

+1.

If you get confused whilst overclocking, pop into the CPU sub-forums and look for a thread called Official AMD Phenom II Overclocking Results or something similar. Just copy the most common settings and voila :p

Everyone makes mistakes :p For example, I'm still using a PC that can't handle my uses xD

The thing that should have given it away was the X4 denotion ;) X2 = 2, X3 = 3, X4= 4, X6= 6 :p

I know, I know, just that I'm still using an abacus and me fingers :p :D.

Just going to pop in the CPU forum and have a good read of that thread ;).

I have a budget of £500ish looking for a gaming machine amd not intel any help,Thanks.

Start your own thread, and clearly state exactly what you need? tower unit? operating system? keyboard and mouse etc?

any bits such as a dvd writer that can be re-used?
