AMD stock fan

Hi guys,

I have a fx-8350 with the stock fan and heatsink. I recently noticed that the stock fan has been making a noise quite like a cricket's chirp. I know this because I replaced the PSU thinking it was the capacitors under voltage swap with cool n' quiet, and I disabled case fans etc.

I called the company I got the stuff from and they are sending a replacement fan. For free. In fact I didn't even have the chance to think it over as he said he will send it and hung up.

My question is: Do all the stock AMD coolers have this kind of sound? I don't want to replace it only to find the new one does the same.

I will probably get a new cooler anyway, but the AMD cooler seems pretty decent for what I do so I don't want to go splashing cash needlessly.

Thanks,

Chris

Well, no fan should be making a noise except from the whoosh of air. I have not seen any stock coolers for amd make that sort of noise. It shouldn't be a problem with the replacement, however any new heatsink with fan will be better than a pants stock.

See what happens with the new fan, then we can gather that.

I'd throw a cheap aftermarket cooler on it.

The FX-8350 overclocks nicely anyway, so even something like a Hyper 212 EVO would allow you to get better performance and less noise.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I was having a look at the 212 EVO, but it might be a little too tall for my case, My case is 180mm in width (whole thing, not just from the cpu. Probably subtract 20-30mm from it for that).

I think the EVO can be mounted on a AMD kit so that it blows air out the back of the case, which is what attracted me. This is probably one of the most important things for me because I have decent case fans at the back, yet none at the top.

Any recommendations on a back-blowing cooler? I think I asked this question on the forum ages ago but I may as well ask it on here.

I have the 8350 on the stock cooler and yes, its quiet.
I'm looking at the Thermalright silver arrow for my next addition. Should fit in my Haf 922 case just nicely to begin my overclocking path :)
